This article paints Apple in a very positive light:

The market share doesn't look too bad when you look at the table. (Especially if you exclude HP & Dell, and maybe Gateway as exceptions) Apple's market share is right in there with the big guys, Sony & IBM.
- iMac 3.2Ghz 1TB - MacBook Pro 15" Core i7 2.3Ghz / 256SSD (Work laptop)
- PowerMac G5 - Dual 2.0 Ghz, 3GB, Soundsticks!,
- Lenovo Thinkpad T510 (also a work laptop), Win 7 Enterprise, 8GB, 320GB HDD

No offense, but you have got to be kidding.

That's like saying that Target's generic mp3 player's marketshare is right up there if you exclude Apple's iPods, Creative's Rio, and iRiver playerss.

Or that Ostrich meat is all the rage if you exclude Beef, Chicken, Pork, and Fish.

I think the important info is that market share is increasing. That's all that matters IMHO.

It says volumes about the viability of the platform.

No offense taken, but if big guys like IBM and Sony can't get larger than a 3% market share with a "mainstream" OS and hardware, isn't it impressive that Apple's able to at least match them?
