So I know I got a lot of sh*t about doing the Atkins diet while exercising to loose weight. But I remain vigilant and I remain committed. I put together a small homepage album showing my progress, I'm still about 30 pounds away from my ideal weight, so there are no after photos yet...but I'll get there!

You need to post pasty skin, flabby hairy before pics so we can compare and contrast with the inevitable super tan, meticulously shaved muscle-y after pics when you're done.

One of the reasons that I am loosing weight is because I had pasty skin and a flabby hairy body. Therefore there were NO pics taken of me then because I was so ashamed of my body.

You sure lost a lot. Good job.

But isn't an Atkins diet going to clock your arteries or mess you up in some other way?

Probably less than the Jack in the Box, Carl's Jr. and McDonald's were. And once I have reached my goal weight, I can go off of Atkins and start eating a normal balanced healthy lifestyle. I'm only 23, I've got a lot of years to heal my body of the damage I did to it.

I think you should lose the goatee also, it is making you look 10 years older.

Fully agree. Lose the goatee, and perhaps even get a slightly shorter haircut and you will look your age again!

Congrats on the progress to date

I agree with you but I am a Certified Senior Advisor for insurance and securities. They don't want some punk ass kid off the streets, they want me: Long Haired, Goatee, Conservative....So it has to stay. They don't want to buy LTC and annuities from someone they think is 23.

Congrats, now you just need a better hair cut Seriously, get it trimmed down a lot and start putting just a bit of styling gel in. Go to a GOOD hair dresser (read: not a chain) and you'll be super happy with the way you look.
You should feel awesome though! I know I feel great about how much weight I've lost, 315-265 (Keep in mind I'm 6 foot 3) and still dropping, and I've put on a lot of muscle, some of the neighbors were arguing whether or not it was me walking down the street a bit ago because one of them remarked "No! David's not that thin!"

After school lets out I'm going to be going to the gym like EVERY DAY, especially once the streets are clear enough to walk or bike or blade. My goal is to drop down to around 220, and be able to swim shirtless at m'birthday party in June... read that, swim shirtless and not feel like everyone's looking.

Thanks for the haircut advice, it's actually kinda longer than normal now just cause I have been putting off the haircutting. But Wednesday I'll be getting one. I hear ya on the shirtless thing, the beach is definitely a goal of mine this year living in Southern California. I'm gonna have to start fake'n'bakin here soon so I don't blind everyone when I take my shirt off. (Irish American and it shows)

Started my own diet three days ago. Shakes three times a day and a normal dinner with my boyfriend. I need something to look forward to, so the dinner is my "carrot". But I still have to think about what the dinner is containing and not over-eat because of the hunger (the shakes don't fill me up....)

It's hard, but it's inspiring to see that other people have weight issues and can fight them

Congrats.

At one point, I was around 240 and 6'4. Since then I've forced myself down to around 185 and have grown to 6'6. Nice to be slim.

Awesome. I lost 60 on the "just stop eating sh*t and get to the gym" diet. I haven't patented it yet .

Here's a tip that really helped me out when I started trying to get in shape: Eat your big meal during the middle of the day. It's sort of an old-world, farmer's mentality to eating.

You have dinner, the big meal, early in the day when you are more active and your body has more time to metabolize it. Then at supper, in the evening, you have a lighter meal when you are less active and your body doesn't have as much food to metabolize before bed.

Generally I wake up and am hungry and eat a small meal right away and then have a small snack mid-morning. My dinner (a late lunch really) is in the early afternoon and by supper time I have a light meal.

And on nights when I go running after work I can even get in a later snack and still not put on weight. Although my biggest difficulty is the "office-snacking" opportunity; Everybody at my work had a candy basket out this week because it was Easter. Uggh!

Good luck to you, Veronica, and all of you, in your healthy pursuits.

Way cool. Congrats.

Question: Did you find that you were undergoing a dramatic life-perspective change? Did some internal drive for self actualization break through your lethargy and catapult you to new vistas?

Or did you just stop stuffing your face?
Do you want forgiveness or respect?

A little bit of both. My friend is a therapist and we've been doing a lot of discussing regarding WHY i have had no will power and have continued to eat like crap. I'm not one to play the victim and admit that there are outside influences controlling my behavior because I am a control freak, but we really boiled it down to an insecurity regarding a lack of success and money and a guilt complex about being overweight to begin with. My response to this anxiety about being insecure and guilty would be to eat to comfort myself. I've been relaxing alot more and things are going really good in my life lately so I have made a concerted effort to make this change. Hopefully, this will be a life altering change and not just some "diet" because I am actually addressing the root of the problem: the cause.
