Caveat: I started this new thread so people could share their thoughts on her death, and not the controversy of the family v. husband etc.

She's been dead a while.

Makes me wonder why God would put her in the brain dead condition she was in only to have her suffer for 15 years. Sounds to me like humans did the right thing by pulling the plug.

We do it every day to people in her condition, and both the law and the courts allow it.

She would have died 15 years ago if humans hadn't interfered with God's will by keeping her alive.

Yes, I thought so, so I created one. A sort of cleansing thread to get this off of our collective chests, and put that "other" thread behind us.

I'll caveate my initial post to address the issue you brought up.

Apparently Unless you believe God controls everything completely, in which case it was his will for the courts to make this rulling.

Anyway, it's sad to hear that she has died, but hopefully her death was peaceful and painless. RIP

Edit: Screw it...

And, yes, the doctors that had said she was PVS had an agenda too. Just look at their past and you'll find they believe in Euthenasia for Althseimers(sp), etc...

But the "untrustworthiness of everyone involved" is not a given. I have no specific knowledge that Terri Schiavo's sister-in-law (and reportedly her best friend) is untrustworthy - do you?

The woman was brain-dead for 15 years. She was probably has moments of consciousness, and I can't imagine how horrible it would have been for her.

Her parents obviously can't let go so they extended the suffering not to mention wasting a TON of money and a hospital bed. The money pissed away on this should have been donated to some fund which could help prevent or cure this sort of incidents.

The CNN home page makes things even more dramatic by showing a picture of her healthy 15 years ago so it seems more "How could they" that the plug was pulled. They should show her the vegetable she was when they did it.

"Their faith in God remains consistent and strong," he said. "They are absolutely convinced God loves Terri more than they do."

I am not following.

Either they totally pretending to be religious or they are selfish.
If they really do believe in God and heaven than why wouldn't they be excited about there daughter is going to live in a paradise with God and presumably not be a drooling vegetable in bed.

Or

They don't really believe in heaven and want to keep what they have left of their daughter on earth no matter how much suffering she is in.

I didn't get that impression. I thought it was nice that they showed her at her best, since it's somewhat like an obituary.

That's for freaking sure. It's amazing how many don't have a standard will, much less a living will. At $19.95 each, there's no reason not to...

You make no sense. How does them stating their faith is consistent and strong and that God loves Terri more than them suddenly jump to them not being "excited" about her going to Heaven?

I'm a devout Christ Follower and so is my family, but when my Dad dies, I won't be doing Cartwheels Of Excitement -- I'll be grieving for my personal loss and that grief will be soothed knowing that he is in Heaven.

You hit the nail on the head! Thank you!

I hope that she has finally found peace. Perhaps her parents and husband can finally put this behind them and live more of a normal life.

It is significant that both President Bush and Jeb Bush only wished "the Schindlers" their condolences.

President Bush even said, "The presumption should always be in favor of life."

But would your really want to put yourself and the individual on that bed in torment for 15 years. This is a case of simply not being able to accept someone's reality.

Whats scary about this whole situation is that I know if I was to become in a state like Mrs. Schiavo today... my mother would fight tooth and nail to have me hooked up to some state of the art machine for 20 years. Where my father would know that I would not want to live in a state like that. Thank god for living wills!

It's significant only if you give a crap about what George and Jeb have to say about it.

Fortunately I don't. RIP Terri, and sorry for turning your final days into a political charade.

Thanks to our greedy media. Making this case so embarrassing for Michael and Mrs. Schiavo's parents.

Seriously how many cases just like this one exist in the United States Today? Is the Bush family going to save everyone of them?

Sure. Collectively, humans ARE God.

Or I should say that God is an invention of humanity. Not the other way around. God is what we make of him or her or it or them.

I hope that Terri and her family finally find some peace.

Why is it that you guys try to make it sound like "starving her to death" was such a bad thing? She didn't feel anything, she didn't know it was happening and it let nature do it's thing instead of actually actively killing her. It was a natural and peaceful way for her to go.

That's the theory, but we don't know that for a fact. If it were my parent, sister, or spouse, I would have snapped their neck rather than run the risk.

And why is it that our culture is so afraid of death -- like "death" is the boogeyman in a horror movie to be run from and avoided at all costs? Death is not the opposite of life. Death is the natural progression of all life. Life, death, rebirth. Creation, destruction, rejuvination. Eastern cultures, like Hindus, celebrate and worship the gods who destroy and take things away as equally as those who create and provide.

Each and every one of us is going to die sooner or later. If we stop fearing and resisting the inevitable, we're more likely to enjoy and appreciate the time we have here.

She suffered from 70-90% atrophy of the upper brain. She wouldn't respond to any checks of consciousness nor pain stimuli. That is why it isn't a theory but a fact.

I think it's as good an argument for euthanasia as any.

Her husband said she was bulimic which caused a potasium deficiency which in turn caused her to collapse.
