Now, everyone go and try and find your house.

This is quite impressive, they even have small towns and its all integrated into the google maps search, so you can still search by address, business, etc

Yahoo or was it Microsoft use to offer this service several years ago.

Anyhow, here is a neat picture:

Do a search for this address, zoom in and turn it into Satellite.

10500 Yukon Ave
Inglewood, CA 90303

You should see an image of an airplane on aproach to LAX.

Nifty.

Here's a direct link to the address, you just have to zoom in a bit.

You can't zoom in much. My house is like 10 pixels.

That's Microsoft, they still do, and it's called Terraserver. The problem is that a lot of the overhead imagery (both satellite and airborne) is old-about 10 years old. My whole neighborhood wasn't here then, so Terraserver isn't very helpful to me.

On the other hand, the photos (may be aerial or satellite) on Google Maps are much more recent. Look at this map/photomosaic. The large building near the center is a high school completed just over three years ago. Now zoom in on the street in the center that looks like a tilted rectangle-look at the lower right corner. You'll notice a vacant lot (that's the space that doesn't look like the rest). The house in that lot was startted last spring, so the picture is about a year old. (It's about three houses down from mine.) Not bad at all.

Interesting that half of Madison, WI is hi-rez, while the west side isn't. The dividing line is less than 2 blocks from my house.

It looks pretty weak. No detail at all because of all the trees around it.

Well we certainly won't see any of Hef's playmates at that resolution!

I see plenty of detail; lots of lovely acreage, pools, tennis courts, lots of stuff. I think having the street address is the coolest part!

How would a Flash version secure the photos (eg, from screen capture utilities)?

Flash is way over used on the web. Don't wish more on us.

Late to the party I know...

But check out the toys at Edwards AFB.

I can do a screen capture with any program. Furthermore, by placing all the huge satellite pictures in a secured swf file, it will provide more secure access. Not only will it be secure, but could be even more interactive and easier to use. Imagine looking at a satellite photo and then being able to plot driving directions over it. Flash is a awesome technology and I personally think more sites should use it.
