I love the way it looks, but I can't stand using it. I keep my dock as small as possible while still being able to identify the icons and read how many unread messages I have in the mail icon.

How about you guys?

I don't up every app I will ever use in the dock, I just put the most commonly used ones and my applications folder down there.

The magnification is cool but it makes me feel motion sick.

The dock magnification feature always seemed a bit gimmicky to me. I just do the same thing Star Wars Gay does: I put the application folder in the dock, as well as maybe three icons (safari, itunes, etc). The dock in its simplest form is a bit too disorganized, and I don't want to make it worse by putting a bunch of icons into it.

No magnification on my dock, thanks. Besides, I never understood what the big deal about magnification was. I recall many people around here and other boards saying that this is one "feature" they like showing their PC friends when showing them OS X. According to them, the PC people would just drool when they saw the magnification feature on the dock. Whatever floats your boat, I reckon.

You've got to admit, when you've been looking at fixed 32*32pixel icons all your life, seeing the dock with magnification for the first time is pretty cool. It can be a useful feature. I know all you graphic designer types have four 32" Cinema Displays, but when you're working with a 12" iBook it gets difficult to fit everything in while still being able to see what's what without dock magnification. I've tried living without it but it's too annoying.

ON,
I need it now. For the longest time I had it off, but with 12" for a screen, I find myself needing it more and more.

Drag Thing. As many docks as you need - using drawers they stay hidden until you need 'em.

Off. My dock only contains the currently running programs. Opening up new applications is as simple as a couple keystrokes using Quicksilver.

I keep my dock real small with no magnification.
Not that I don't love max magnification for showing off how cool it is,
it's just that it gets in the way when doing work - it's all twitchy and annoying whenever I get near the thing. Like a psychotic chihuahua.

Ah, but when I first installed the OS X beta years ago - the joy, the rapture, the hours spent playing with the dock. I could write a book about it.

I like the magnification effect, but I leave it off. It's very slow and bothersome when your dock is ObjectDock. On a Mac I think I'd have it on, but with very slight magnification, otherwise it's just annoying.

You think I don't know this?

I need to get my ass dragged out to my grandma's pretty damn soon, since she's the one who'll be financing it (though I don't think she's aware of the fact yet)...

I have my dock with magnification off (from day 1 in OS X 10.1), smallest size and situated in the bottom right corner.

I have it large enough so that it covers the bottom of my 17" Cinema Display.

I turn off bouncing and magnification normally, though I just turned magnification back on haha... I like it every now and again but I'll probably turn it off soon. I'd leave it on, but I always move my dock to the left hand side... it's pretty small icons are probably just a bit bigger than 32/32. Probably 40 or so. Anyway, I only leave a few Apps and CPU monitor and Activity Monitor for a RAM PIE chart in the dock, I have 19 items in my dock including the trash and finder and app folder.

I keep my dock hidden, even on my PowerBook 17. I also have magnification turned off and I try and add everything I can to dock detox. I use F10 as my apps/document launcher from the menu bar.

I know. It's just jarring to see it these days. That's all. I remember when that was state-of-the-art and even a little revolutionary to have a desktop like that.
