I was in Toys 'R Us the other day and came across a joystick that runs on batteries and which has an a/v output.

It comes with Ms. Pacman, Pole Position, Xevious, and a couple of other games.

It looks like they just took the original arcade games and repackaged them. If that's the case, I'd love to have it. It's only CAD$25 (which is just over US$20).

Has anyone come across this before? The main things I'm wondering about are:

1) Are they they original games, or have they been modified significantly?
2) Is the joystick gonna last more than a week?

Not everyone wants to pay $200 + $50 per game to play something like Ms. Packman.

They are old news but they seem to be the same as the original. Worth the $30.

Yeah, and the PSP is CAD$400 here. Plus, AFAIK, you can't run Ms. Pacman or Xevious or Galaga on a PSP anyway.

Now if I could only find the original Mario Bros. and Joust somewhere on one of these things.

If you're looking for Mario Brothers (or any Original Nintendo or SNES) games, you just need to download an emulator and ROMs.

Check out: http://www.snes9x.com/ for more info. You can play these original games on your computer, or even connect your computer to a TV, buy a USB game controller, and it's just like the old days of Nintendo. I don't think very many people are aware of these emulators, I certainly wasn't until a friend showed me recently. I hadn't played video games for years, so it's been fun revisiting some old favorites.

I bought all the classic Namco games on one CD for the PS2 for $20. Damn, they required more skill than modern games.

Just a note, I don't have any console at the moment.

Thanks, but I wanted something for my TV. (Technically, you're not supposed to have the games anyway unless you own the ROMs. )

Cool. I guess for $20, even if it only lasts 6 months I can't complain too much.

Yup, worth the money for me. I do have a copy of most Namco Classics for PlayStation (5 discs, Vol 1 - 5) and GameCube so I also play the rom version on my computer.

But the joystick games work just fine for the cost.

How? Is there already an emulator for it? I wasn't aware of it.

I won't be buying the PSP anyway though.

Namco Museum is out in Japan. I have it. It'll be coming out here in the US.
