Hey! That rhymed.
Anyhow, my mom has some growing in her backyard. It grows wild and she was going to uproot it till I figured out what it was.
Much like pot, the fresh catnip buds are the best. Cats love them.
Drives them crazy .
The crap you buy at the store would be like buying stems seeds and leaf.

My neighbor used to have a potted catnip plant about 2 feet in diameter and almost all the time, chilling in the middle of the small shrub, was a very plump and content looking cat. We bought our cat a catnip filled mouse once and it just tore it in half to get at the sweet sweet inards.
I am picturing a Photochopped image with a cat smoking a huge blunt of catnip, possibly with dreadlocks...

my parents grew catnip for our first cat. the plant would get the TINIEST bit out of the earth, and the cat would chew the **** back down. she ended up with a jaw full of dirt half the time.

I have three cats, and recently we got some prepared catnip and gave it to them by rubbing it on their scratching post. The yellow tabby, who NEVER uses the post got really interested right away, rubbing and snuggling the post for a long time. Then (predictably) he flipped out and began bouncing off walls, furniture, etc. until he wound down. All this time the other two cats just watched him, sort of like they were saying "he's wild when he's stoned-watch this!"
After the yellow one mellowed out, the gray one decided it was his turn. Now his eyes are pretty dilated most of the time anyway, but after a little while with the 'nip, he didn't seem to have irises at all! He didn't freak, just got REALLY friendly with the scratching post. He ambled away after a while and looked like he was going to sleep it off.
Now the brown one figures it's his turn, so he starts investigating the remaining catnip. He rubbed his face all over where the catnip was for a few minutes and obviously started to be getting into it, when suddenly the gray one decided that his stash was being violated. He went from asleep to hyper in about two miliseconds and chased the brown one away, spending the next half hour defending the scratching post from anyone who approached.
Catnip is much better than pot; potheads get boring after a while and their munchies get expensive. A couple of cats and some (very legal) catnip, and you'll have hours of entertainment!

Catnip works for humans too btw. Smoking it gives a mild and very mellow high.

But you'll never see a cat doing bong hits while standing on its head. That's what distinguishes us from mere animals.
