I am going to Spain in June and haven't really thought about where I am going to sleep.
Are there any online travel sites that are frequented in Europe? Like the Expedia/Travelocity equivalents of Europe?
Any suggestions for Spain? I will be in madrid and barcelona mostly.
Also, how does the Eurail work and is that the best way to get around?
Thanks all.

The Eyewitness series of travel guides also include fairly excellent hotel guides.
Unfortunately, we didn't manage to get into any of those hotels when we visited Barcelona on extremely short notice (as in, a few hours), but we managed to get a really nice room via the tourist info.
The Eyewitness travel guide for Spain comes *highly* recommended.

Spain has some of the best value for money in terms of hotels. A five star hotel in Spain, for example, is probably going to be much better and less expensive than a five star hotel in UK or France.

Jeff ******* says (9:19 AM): Eww, Ottawa is gross. It's infested with politicians, and presently, 1 Harper as well.

No, like I said, a 5 star hotel in Spain is much better than a 5 star hotel in the UK. In Spain the hotels are nicer, the service is better, etc.

To find/book hotels in Spain try www.hotels.com
You simply type in the city you are going to and it finds hotel suggestions for you to choose from at various price levels. I used this when I went to Italy last year and it worked.
I have no experience with eurorail though.

You'll find very nice two-star hotels offering rooms for €35 per night in Spain.

Thanks for the replies...I'll probably begin my research given what I now know.
I think maybe when I am over there I will make a "thread" journal of my travels on the forums.

Oh and in Spain RENFE is your choice in railway. Quite nice. It is certainly the most interesting and beautiful way to travel there short of walking
I'd say it is the best way to get around. Be prepared for €40 ticket from Barcelona to Valencia for instance. I don't know about that Eurail thing as such, since it seems to be designed for Americans and well everyone but Europeans. In my experience it is more fun to just be at a train station and buy a ticket somewhere
It isn't all that expensive either.
