Here's a thought that occured to me..... and it might me pretty absurd....
What if M$ XBox division and Nintendo teamed up for this next gen console ? Think about it....
if you tally both their home consoles sales this generation it dosent reach that of Sonys, right ? So could they have teamed up to develop a common hardware platform ?

It occured to me when i saw the picture of the Xbox360 controller, which has design asthetics of Apple/Nintendo.

If they team up to develop hardware...well both can author games, Microsoft can push it's other agenda for a digital-hub as well off the same hardware....as well as integrated online functionality, which can serve both companies. Myabe thats a 'revolution' ?

It's just a thought.

1. Both use PPC970 derivitives, both use Ati
2. Nintendo identifies only Sony as their competitor
3. It would be perfectly possible to play GC and XBox games given the hardware specs (backwards compatible)
4. Their dev kits would be too similar imo with similar processors and vid cards.

Discuss/speculate ?

I imagine both were designed with IBM because they were the best game in town. Not to mention, it will allow for easy porting between systems. I think both of them look at Sony as the biggest threat. But I doubt Nintendo wants to team up with M$ beyond making it easy for cross platform games.

Well putting pride aside. If you look at the playing field from a busness/financial perspective:
-Xbox gained a heck of a lto of market share but cost Microsoft millions.
-GameCube didnt sell as well as hoped... but made millions for Nintendo.

So they both won/lost the game is one way or another to Sony, which sold millions and made millions. I think .... if they put both put their pride aside, and shared the burdeon of developing hardware, both would have ample resources aside to concentrate on games(or in the case of M$, PVRs, etc).

Seeing as how i love Nintendo and dont really like M$, it would be pretty weird. But at the same time... we'd have clear and equally capable competitors for homeconsoles.

The only difference i noticed in the announcements....Nintendo will use HD-DVD and XBox260 DVD-DL, but it's perfectly possible that the media will be interchangeable in the drive. AND it would provide a prettydarn good alternative to BluRay with market penetration on par with the PS3.

i doubt it will happen either, especially if you take into account real world factors...but it's an interesting thought.

personally i dont care if it does or dosent happen. But i do have to say it would make business sence give Sony as the dominant competitor.

In all honesty, I'd rather see Sony maintain dominance than have MS get any further into people's living rooms.

By the same logic, it would more logical if Sony and Nintendo teamed up, since they are from the same country. And they together would nip M$ gaming, thus making the Macintosh the #1 fraggers choice.
