Hi all..
Just wanted to get this off my chest since I see alot of odd threads anyways. I've been talking to a head-doctor about my illness. And for the first time since I started to feel bad I now have a better understanding of my illness. I was told that i'm schizophrenic - which i'm happy to know of. All this not knowing what exactly is wrong is tough.
So there.

Ok. If it is a joke, it's in pretty poor taste.
If not a joke, it's pretty brave to come out and say so. Are you taking meds? Is it plain vanilla schizo or borderline or manic depressive?

Remember not everyone is a Ken Masters or Patty. Some people feel they can say things on an internet forum that they could not tell their closest friends.
Seeking help is a positive first step.

I would never joke about my own state of mind. I'm plain schizo. hearing voices and smelling things that are not there. Also mind-stealing has been a part of my everyday life although it has been decreasing the last couple of months. I'm taking a drug called Risperdal to help me not be psycotic and help keep my mind in place. I also talk to a nurse every now and then - she has to ensure that my state of mind is somewhat acceptable.

Good luck, man.
From what my wife tells me from her psychiatry training, I understand that the most important part is not to *stop* taking the meds once you feel better. Many people start feeling okay, so they stop the meds, because they're annoyed at the side-effects... but that leads to trouble.
Hopefully your family and friends will start learning about it, too, so they can be most helpful to you...

Wow.
Are you and Patty two different people in the same body? Or is this aberdeenwriter back from the edge?
If you're for real then we all, I'm sure, wish you the best of luck.
In fact, even if you're not for real, I'm sure we all still wish you the best of luck.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate it. I will stay on the medicine. Even though they make me sleepy.. I just take them at night since Risperdal works 24 hours anyway

It's from the movie 'The Shining' where the character played by Jack Nicholson 'goes crazy'. Redrum is 'murder' spelled backwards.

Cursing at you was not a very nice thing for Mr Budster to do, but I am sure he didn't mean it since he is usually very polite. I don't think you are an attention w---- at all, but rather you are a nice person getting something very important off his chest. And remember, you are not alone. Another member of MacNN, a young man name "Ambush" has the same problem you do, perhaps you would like to speak to him about his experiences. Like people above have said, just stick to the doctor's orders, and you'll be just fine.

I applaud your courage to publicly admit that you have schizophrenia. Just hope that you will continuing seeing your psychiatrist. Most important of all is that you continue taking your medications. I do realize that the side effects cause many to stop, they want to feel. It's not easy, but I have faith that you will be able to be compliant.

Being a nurse, I have a lot of knowledge and experience with mental illness.
Thank you _?_. Embarrassed.

You actually have proof that you are schizophrenic, and you still dare to come to the MacNN Lounge? I'm fairly certain most anti-depressants and medications used in connection with schizophrenia carry the label, "WARNING: Simultaneous usage of [insert name of medication] and the MacNN Lounge may lead to severe cerebral dysfunction and partial or total loss of sight, hearing, smell, usage of muscles, and some or all brain functions".
Nej, bare for sjov - jeg håber medicinen kan hjælpe dig og at det her ikke kommer til at forhindre dig i at leve et nogenlunde normalt liv.

I use to chat with Fonzie, he is such a nice guy, you can be sure he is letting you know the truth, I don´t think every one could do the same in such position.
Go for it Fonzie, be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Well, Fonzie and I had a nice pm discussion. My original comment came because this thread appeared in the lounge not long after the one asking if god speaks to us. Never can tell in this place.
But as I mentioned to Fonzie, and I hope he doesn't mind my repeating this, is that he now has an advantage because most people don't even know if they're crazy.
Humor's always a good medication.

Fonzie,
Good luck with this. I would follow all the other suggestions to take the med's and stick to them.
I had sever depression for a couple years and was on some heavy-duty anti-depressants.
They helped SO much but I have only the vaguest memories of a couple years of my life.
Once the fog lifted however, I felt great and was able to move back to a more manageable dose.
Stick with the meds, don't listen to any of the jackasses here, and keep us updated on your progress.
 to you!

@Randman, indeed we did have a nice short chat on pm
@dcmacdaddy, I too suffered from a depression although mine is a winter depression. I still take Cipramil to keep it down. I have to do this a little while longer.

I hope you have consulted another doctor for a second opinion!
Besides, who knows? Maybe it's a side-effect from taking anti-depressants?

Maybe it is. Although i'm certain it is not. I first started taking Zyprexa which is anti-psycotic medicine. Then I moved on to another anti-psycotic medicine called Risperdal because I took on alot of weight and they weren't working that well. First after that did I get anti-depressant medicine. Because the nurse who came to see me could tell something was up besides just being psycotic.
