So I decided to take the contents of last week's blogs and put them on two different systems: Blogger and Word Press.
Word Press version:
http://www.starman.cc
Blogger version:
http://istarman.blogspot.com/
I'm not even going to post my personal opinions on both. Let me know what you think.

I voted for Word Press. However, as a blogger user I see no problems with it. Sorry for the passive answer, but at least I voted right?

wordpress, because if you ever want more freedome than blogger gives you, it will be a lot easier to do it with wordpress. rather than having to export your blogger posts (i could never get the comments out), import them into word press, and then sit and convert your template to word press if you want it to look the same.
i was not happy with blogger in the fact that i really liked the (i use movable type) plugins that were available. and the amount of customization that i could do with a movable type template for each page did it for me.
just my 2c. use it, don't use it.

From a user-perspective, both are equally easy to read, and pleasant looking. From a geek point of view, WordPress would be a better long term solution IMO, given the extra control you will have over everything.

Wordpress, without a doubt. Looking great.
Just my personal opinion, I played with WP for a while and in the end moved to MT. I just find MT a lot more flexible and powerful than WP. I host everything, including static html pages, from one single MT install. Just a thought.

Wordpress, though I personally use Moveable Type. But thats me.
Either way use the program Ecto for posting. Worth the $15.

The problem with MT is that it breaks on godaddy's servers. If I want to register a private domain, I have to use godaddy. It's so stupid. When I called godaddy telling them their servers were borked they said that if I give them all the information they need and they find a problem with MT, they'll charge me. I didn't trust that they'd actually fix the REAL problem and find some bullsh*t problem with MT. I told them exactly what the problem was (one of their env. vars. was pointing to the wrong place) so rather than writing a 2-line Perl script to check the problem themselves they wanted to threaten me with support charges.
I have MT on my other domain which I'm going to let expire, but it's an older version which I can't find to install on the new domain.
So why don't I move away from godaddy? Private domain registration. I don't understand why ICANN feels that private information needs to be public anyway. I know there are other domain registrars that are private, but none of them are tied into hosting (that I could find).
I'll stick with WP, but I have a feeling at some point, that's going to break on godaddy also.

Photoshop by hand for the first one, then DoubleTake for the second + photoshop to do the final end-to-end seam.

You know you don't have to host your site with the same company as you register your domain with, right?

I know that. In fact, after I wrote that I thought that I might want to "shift gears" and look into other web host companies. I always found it cheaper to have both from the same company because they give you a better deal if you do that. I found thinkhost and registerfly. I'm looking into others.

I use 1and1. I don't know how much you want to pay, but they have plans from $9.99 and up that will support Movable Type just fine.

I found a reference to 1and1 and asmallorange on Neowin. I also found viziweb. $9.99 is fine, but I'm looking for telnet/ssh support, full CGI/PHP, and good management tools like a control panel. So far viziweb seems to be the best, but I'm being patient .

I've heard horrible things about godaddy. I tried 1and 1 and hated their control panel.
Take a loot at Dreamhost. You get all of the features you wanted and more, plus excellent support and a good price.

Actually, 1and1's $9.99 plan does include SSH access as well as full CGI and PHP support.

OK, I made my final decision.
Host: http://www.viziweb.com
Blog software: http://www.movabletype.org
I like MT before and loved it. Stupid godaddy couldn't help me so screw 'em. I found viziweb though Leo Laporte's site. Lots of people like it, and their control panel just rocks.
Set up MT already. I had to use temporary paths for now because of the domain name switch. That might take a few hours (days?). I did this same thing years ago and it took days to propogate through the internet.
