"Star Wars" creator/writer/director George Lucas made his guest appearance at "Celebration III" this morning at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis and he talked about the franchise. About 9,000 fans had been lined up since midnight for a chance to see Lucas talk.
The event was hosted by actor Jay Laga'aia, who played Captain Typho in "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith," though Lucas funnily made a mistake saying he thought Laga'aia played a Clone Trooper.
Lucas confirmed that they are working on two TV series. One will be a half hour 3-D computer animated series and the other is a live action series. The live action series will star some of the characters featured in the movies, though not the main characters. Lucas will kick-off the series himself. They are planning on writing the entire first season and then shooting Season One all at once. He mentioned Lucasfilm is aiming for a production start in about a year.
Also, George Lucas said that the "Star Tours" thrill ride at Disney-MGM Studios will be getting an overhaul soon. And he confirmed they are working on bringing the early 90's TV series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles to DVD as well.

Will this be on a regular network or will it on cable? The clone wars animated series was pretty cool, but for some reason I don't see a live-action series working out very well...unless of course Mark Hamill is back!

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away......
There was a series of 3 movies that changed the world of science fiction. Who would have thought that the with each new episode it would be better than the previous one?
Then, a few years later, George Lucas tried it again and f**ked up. Then a couple years later he tried it again and f**ked it up again, but nearly as bad. Then in 2005 he tried again and......
Well, I guess we will see in a few more weeks how the story ends. At least we know that he is following a tradition again. Each new episode is better than the previous one.
I love Star Wars because it was part of my childhood. I remember my father coming home from work one day back in 1978 and giving me my first Star Wars action figure, Chewbacca. The special effects, story and characters where believable back then. When looking at the original again 25+ years later they are still more believable than the new ones.
If ole' George is going to do a series it had better be good. Up to this point he has screwed up Star Wars almost as bad as the post Gene Roddenberry crew screwed up Star Trek. I don't know if I will ever be able to explain to my kids how it happened

I don't understand people's fascination with Star Wars or Star Trek for that matter.
The only movie I can honestly appreciate from him is THX-1138.

Most believe TESB to be superior to ROTJ.

The last two were no worse than the first three.
I listen to the kids today. They talk about the new StarWars movies like I did when the first three was out. Still the same effects on youngsters.
I remember when I was a kid also, lots of adults thought the originals were corny too.
I remember the big fuss about Yoda being "too cute" and the whole ewok fiasco.
Or how about Mark Hamill's horrible acting. "But I wanted to go to toche station to pick up some power converteersss"
Very low budget too. Do you know they used old camera flash tube holders for Lightsabre props?

Never been a star wars fan, except for the factor5 games. The whole 'star wars' things seems morel ike a franchize than a story.
This could be cool if they showcased cinema quality special effects of the ILM calibre in a tv show. that'll probably be the only reason i'll watch it.

actually, i thought the cartoon network 15 minute star wars shorts were ok
if they performed that same quality, i would be entertained. i mean, it's better than "who's your daddy?". (no vader jokes please)

the cartoon network star wars cartoons were cool but this, "One will be a half hour 3-D computer animated series," thing bothers me. the animation on them worked really well, but i do not see them coming out nicely in 3-D computer animation.
maybe genndy tartakovsky quoted them too much for a full cartoon

This was the most interesting part of the whole article for me. I was actually thinking about buying the VHS release of Young Indy and making my own DVDs this summer, but this saves me the trouble.

But Lucas added that he'll digitally superimpose River Phoenix into the show, for continuity.
