There are several articles on this girl that can SUPPOSEDLY see into people.

Scientists are even observing her. I cannot figure out why any of them, including American scientists, are giving this entire thing a second look. Weird!

I thought you needed a crusty but loveable (and slightly bufuddled and very absent-minded) German scientist (old, natch) for 100% scientific accuracy.

Because the fact that crap like this isn't worth looking into? Especially since the tests with forced-choice are giving exact statistically probable results of ~50%?
In the test, Ms. Demkina correctly identified the medical conditions of four out of seven patients, and misdiagnosed three. She was informed in advance of the seven possible conditions, and was required to assign them correctly — a "forced-choice" test. She had claimed in advance that she would be 100% correct, but agreed with the researchers that she would have to get at least five successes to pass the test.
Call me when she applies for (and passes) the $1 000 000 JREF challenge (which she has been asked to respond to several times).

Reminds me of Eddie Izzard's impression of "Prof. Heimlich", inventing the "maneuver" ... "Hans, I want you to stand over here, then swallow siss golf ball ..."

I see dead people ... as a physicist, I can tell you, this is not possible. In order to penetrate people, the electromagnetic waves have to be very long (`radio waves') which are useless, because they either do not penetrate the skin enough (tera Hertz radiation which has to be produced by some source, expensive) or it isn't stopped at all (= biologically not interesting as there is no `contrast').

If her eyes could `see' x-rays, you would still need a source. But soft (biological) matter doesn't absorb x-rays too well (compared to hard biological tissue, mainly bones).

Bogus.

At the children’s hospital in her home town of Saransk in Western Russia, doctors ran a battery of tests to find out if the little girl really did have x-ray vision. In one case Natasha drew a picture of what she saw inside a doctor’s stomach, marking a dark spot exactly where he had an ulcer. She also disagreed with the diagnosis of a cancer patient, saying all she could see was a small cyst. Further tests on the woman proved that Natasha was correct.

Natasha was brought to England by a national newspaper and she successfully spotted all of the fractures and metal pins in a woman who had recently been in a car crash. The woman was fully clothed and had no visible signs of how or where she had been injured.
Then how do we explain this? Crap?

I have seen people with unusual visual abilities -just cases of slightly shifted visible spectra one way or the other; nothing major- but this one is pretty much impossible. It violates too many laws of optics.

In order to be able to see through an object, there needs to be some sort of ray which penetrates the object. This is how X-ray cameras work; they fire radiation from one side of the object being photographed, and the radiation exposes film on the other side of the object. Although the ancient Greeks believed that the human eye emitted some unknown form of rays in order to see, modern optics has shown that this is not the case; humans view light reflected from other objects, and do not emit rays of their own.

This said, let us consider a hypothetical case whereby this girl somehow had the ability to emit such rays. These rays could be reflected back off of a solid surface and then picked up by her eyes, which could produce such vision. However, this still doesn't work, for one important reason: any rays which could penetrate a human body would also penetrate her own retinas, such that she could not see the reflection. In other words, this is just a new spin on the old trick of selling bottles of an amazing solvent which eats through anything: why doesn't it eat through its container?

This girl may in fact have great diagnostic talent. You can tell a lot about people from the way they move, and it's possible that she can deduce much from watching this and other factors. X-ray vision, however, is certainly not one of her tools.
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

Besides, if she did have X-ray vision, she'd be a professional poker player. Or hitting 'em up at blackjack. I'd get her a fake ID, somehow, for a cut.

I don't know about that. If you see right through the cards, then how do you see what's on them? Do you hope that the person holding them is wearing reflective clothing or something?

If she can see through bodies (which she can't), then she can see through a layer of a card and see what's on the other side.

What 'layer'? Most playing cards are printed on a single layer of cardstock.

There's no way that she can see through bodies; we agree on that. But if you look at actual X-rays, the way that cameras work is not by selectively penetrating only to a certain depth, but simply going by what penetrates and what doesn't. You can't just "turn down" X-rays to only go a certain distance.

The real test is not whether or not she can get 4/7, but 400/500 or whatever. Unless and until enough data is collected, statistical validation of her diagnostic value remains a question mark. Randi or anyone else may judge the validity of the ability based upon insufficient data (his hallmark), but this is as unscientific as the subject's claim.

The Xray vision thing may well be more of a marketing-oriented spin on what she does, as Millennium alludes. In that case, she can call it whatever she likes -- if she's successful a majority of the time the spin doesn't make any difference to me.

Yes, Universities around the world should stop doing research online and instead come to you for the final word on any controversial matters.

It's not universities around the world researching this crud. It's one or two scientists who, because scientists are not superhuman and can also be idiots, are wasting time looking for **** that ain't there. Even then, you've read on the internet that such and such scientists are studying this but have you made some phone calls to universities to verify if the studies are happening or whether these scientists actually exist?

Unbelievable how people can get suckered by **** they read but don't look into. Anyone can pull a phoney like this and spread it across the world. You know, my dick is seventy five inches long and is equipped with sidewinder missile launchers and that is verified by Dr. Stan J. Harper M.D of Harvard University. Honest. It runs in the family. Here's a picture Harvard students took of us.

LOL. The whole point of simple testing is what gives these guys an advantage. If they can pass a preliminary test like this, where they by pure chance can get more than ~50% right there is no point in testing them any further. Remember most these looney toons claim 100% accuracy. The girl with the X-ray vision certainly does.
