is it possible to have a 3rd party pay for apple products to receive the edu discount? Like lets say my gf who is acceptable for edu discount cause she is currently enrolled in a university. Is it ok if she orders a computer online from apple, and possibly have somebody else pay for it? Will this work? Does Apple even check? Because she ordered iLife 05 from apple store before, and I paid for her, and it went through...

Any one have a clue on how this works?

So long as they get the money they're probably fine.

It's when you don't pay that they tend to not sell you things.

I just ordered a Mac Mini on my brothers account. I used my card to order it and everything went fine. Of course, it hasn't come in yet so I guess it's conceivable that they could call and check, but so far nothing.

They don't check at all.

Pick an email address and a school and that's all you need.

I had a powerbook sent to my moms (under her credit card number) using my student discount when I was in college.

I have ordered a few things with the EDU discount without any problems.... In your situation it probably would have been better to order the Mini from PowerMax though. They are based out of Oregon and have no state sales tax, for me, the tax money I saved was larger than the small EDU discount Apple takes off....

No, it isn't. He lives about 45 minutes from here, but he goes to school in my town.

I looked into retailers other than apple because of the sales tax, however I wanted one with just an airport card and not bluetooth. By the time I purchased a base 1.42 mini and paid the retailer to install an airport card, I was right back to what I was going to be paying with apple.
