This is a thread about Monday.

Does everyone have bad Mondays? I usually have okay Mondays, but not today. Everything I can think of is going wrong.

First of all, bought a brand new PowerBook on Saturday. It didn't have Tiger with it and I didn't think of asking for it. I guess I'm stupid. I didn't even look at Tiger on Saturday because I was in a big hurry. to myself.

Then, to make matters worse, I went and bought Tiger yesterday for $212 (I actually see that I bought the Family Pack now that I am looking at the receipt - which I did not need because I only wanted it for the PowerBook - because they assumed that that was what I wanted.

I came home and started moving things over from my iMac and eMac over to the PowerBook using Firewire because I wanted to make sure everything indexed properly when I loaded Tiger. Then guess what? I lost all of my data on both the iMac and the eMac! I got the data over to the PowerBook...but now it's all gone on the iMac and eMac. More importantly, all of my email contacts and address book information is gone forever - and didn't transfer over either.

What a headache.

But, I'm dealing with it and try to have a good attitude.

That's at about 6:00 AM that I discover this information. I started methodically and painfully reinstalling everything and setting it all back up.

Then, my 12-year old "forgets" that his school is honoring him at a special breakfast for getting a perfect FCAT score (kind of like grade school SAT for Florida) and doesn't show up for his own breakfast in honor of himself. He told me it was on Wednesday...but the principal of the school called me up at 9:00 AM asking where he was? It's not on Wednesday, it is today.

Fine. I still try to have a good attitude.

I call AppleCare to add AppleCare to my new PowerBook.

They tell me that I didn't need to buy Tiger and that the store should have known better because I qualify for it for free since it was purchased after April 12th. Now I need to return the purchased copy and get a refund.

Fine. Then I try to give them my credit card number and it won't go through. I call my bank. There is definitely money in the bank and a lot of credit on my card. They put me through to their "Internet Division." I am then informed that Bank of America "automatically" monitors customers' accounts and puts holds on them when "they" think that the account is being used more than what is considered normal. They mention that they see a large purchase at "the Apple Store in North Miami" so they stopped my card.

What else can go wrong today?

Seriously?

Anyone else have Mondays like this?

You aren't EVEN going to believe the next thing:

I just went to the Apple site to check out buying something else and I see "Notice of PowerBook 15-inch Battery Recall."

I read there that they are recalling batteries. So, I flip my PowerBook over and take out the battery...

AND THE BATTERY IN MY NEW POWERBOOK IS "A1045" AND IS RECALLED!

Unbelievable!

Well, maybe I exaggerated a little

Actually, it seemed like 2000-2002 were the worst. In addition to quitting my job, starting a business, having our house hit by lightning, our first child, my wife dealing with PTSD, I had your Monday experience every time I dealt with my computers. I can't recall how often I had to return stuff because it didn't work the first time, or was broken out of the box, etc. And I'm a computer consultant part of the time, so it's not exactly like I don't know what I'm doing.

Anyway, it's all better now (well, the PTSD thing won't go away, but that's to be expected).

That's too bad about your wife's PTSD. Has she seen a shrink? If not, she should. I was once involved in a very bad airline flying accident and had to see one for the same thing.

I may end up seeing one myself after today.

My Mondays are always big biatches, but I'm getting used to it.

None of the things that have happened to you sound all that bad though. Sure you have to do a little running around to get things in order again, but at least no one died nor will you be spending your whole Monday in the office.

Get yourself a cup of coffee or hot cocoa. Sit down for five minutes, not answering to anyone. Finish the cup and feel better.

Scene from Office Space, a cult movie for all cubicle dwellers!! There is talk about having a 'case of a Mondays' in the movie.

But seriously if you let these tiny little 'problems' affect your life you are not going to live very long....

I actually kind of like Monday, lately. Before it was a pain to get up, but getting up semi-early, making myself a great cappuccino-to-go, and relaxing the morning away while "working" is a good slow way to open the week up.

I'm sorry to hear about your Monday. The bright side is that it can only get better from here.

I'M SHOCKED !
For someone who hangs out at MacNN 24/7, most of the stuff you could / should have known.

1) Making backups before installing new OS
2) PB 15" Battery recall (it's been on the front page of apple.com for months !)
(which, in turn, raises the legitimate question why Apple still ships bad batteries...)
3) free Tiger upgrades with computers shipped after 04/29

Cody, I DID have a couple of years like that. Honest and for truly I did. Horrible, horrible times for days upon days, months upon months. I got over it, though it took some time (and some help). One sucky day does not a bad week make.

Kids forget stuff. It's part of being a kid. That it was something in his honor will probably be a valuable lesson for him. At least when the principle called it was about his missing something good...

As for BoA, they were actually PROTECTING you, even though it was inconvenient. That's how they stop a lot of Internet and stolen card number fraud. They should have simply told you "we put a hold on your account but since you've called us, authenticated that you are indeed you, and told us what is going on so we understand it's all legitimate, we've removed the hold. Give it five minutes." If they didn't do that, call their customer service folks and vent at them. It might make you feel a bit better.

Well, thanks, but it's been a REALLY crappy day.

which, in turn, raises the legitimate question why Apple still ships bad batteries...
THANK YOU. That was kind of MY point.

As I type this I am waiting for Apple tech support. I waited a freaking HOUR and then they came on and the guy said, "Oops, just a minute," and then the phone died.

I'm really upset about this battery thing. It's really poor that they're SHIPPING the "new" PowerBooks with bad batteries...what gives with THAT?

Anyway, let's see how long I wait on hold THIS time. At least I'm at home and I can drink wine while I whine to Apple.

Well, figures, I can't even drink wine. It's white wine and it's not in the refrigerator or wine bin. So unless I want to drink tepid white wine there is no wine.

Yuck-O.

Because they didn't know which batteries, exactly, had already been kitted up for new computers. It's not like they're making a fuss about replacing them-particularly in Cody's case-it's just another frustration in a very frustrating day for Cody.

Whatever you do, Cody, DON'T ICE YOUR WINE! YUCK! Stick it in an ice bucket or big bowl, put a bunch of ice in with the wine bottle, and then fill it with water. Within 20 minutes or so it will be at least cool enough to drink, and probably quite cool. Sip and enjoy.

Or take a nice hot bath. Anyone remember those Calgon commercials? "Calgon, take me away!" Must have been aimed at some particularly "simple" women, even back then. But a nice relaxing bath can help you put this day in perspective-and behind you.

One more thing: with all the frustrations you've had today, Cody, think of the stastical probability of running into more tomorrow! It's practically nil!

Okay, it's another day...DEFINITELY BETTER.

I have to tell all of you, though, what happened.

First of all, I wanted the battery swapped out. No biggie - just swapped. No, they couldn't do that. Then they wanted me to send in the battery...and wait for them to ship back the replacement battery.

What is THAT?

I'm supposed to go without a battery in my brand new PowerBook?

Anyway, I finally caved and said, "Whatever."

But, then I tried to order AppleCare for the PowerBook. I had to wait on the telephone for an HOUR. Then they said I had the wrong department...transferred me...and I waited another HOUR for a salesperson. I was on the telephone until 9:00 PM with them. I spent 3 HOURS on the telephone with Apple (actually, 3:41 hours.)

Meanwhile, there was drama going on with my next door neighbor...

Happy Birthday, again, WDLove.

Yes, I did get the AppleCare and for my trouble they sent us the Tiger family pack. That was a nice gesture that I didn't expect. I faxed a letter over to Apple Customer Relations telling them what was going on and expressing the sentiment that if Apple wants to improve their profits that they should actually get salespeople on the phone to make a sale in under 3 hours. Also, they are sending me a new battery. They haven't arrived yet...so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I love the PowerBook, though. BIG SIGH. (Sigh of contentment.)

When my spouse basically stole my own PowerBook () I was on a desktop system for a long time. It's so nice to bring Mac OS around the house with me wherever I go.

Anyway, I hope everyone here is having a good one!
