Very funny!

You could add to that, too.

"Due to the lack of mayonnaise, the celebrated chef at the top Mexico City restaurant, 'Cesar,' then had to improvise with his salad dressing. He took what few ingredients he had, oil, anchovies, capers, eggs, and spices and whipped them all together on the spur of a moment. And thus was born the 'Caesar Salad'."

Ah this is one of those dates that everybody in the western world can read correctly!

I'll be at work on the fifth. Last year when it was April 4th 2004 I seem to recall working as well. Can't break the tradition.

Oh, about the Caesar salad comment I made. Here you go - it was actually sort of based on truth:

Few dishes have origins so embroiled in controversy as Caesar salad. The most widely accepted tale is that Caesar Cardini, a restaurant owner and chef in Tijuana Mexico, whipped up a salad from scratch with leftover ingredients for a gathering of hungry Hollywood notables, sometime in the 1920’s, (1924 being the most often quoted year). Other yarns credit his aunt or brother for it’s creation, and claim that it was made for a group of Cardini’s old aviator buddies instead of Hollywood dignitaries. There’s even discrepancy about whether anchovies were included in the original recipe. The more you probe into this enigma, the more you need a drink instead of a salad.
Suffice it to say that the “original” ingredients appear to be romaine lettuce, coddled eggs, (we’ll get to those in a moment), Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, olive oil, parmesan cheese, croutons, salt, and pepper. Despite its dubious history, Caesar salad is delicious and can successfully be combined with such accompaniments as grilled chicken, steak, and shrimp.
It originally DID come from Mexico and was invented because of lack of ingredients...perhaps even mayo.

Hey Randman:

I think I think I have a dental appointment that day to be honest.

Nothing too important.

It's good that you'll be going on to bigger and better opportunities, to be honest. It's really a downer when you hate your job. I have days like that, though. Yesterday was a bad day.

No, that's correct Spanish, not just 'cause it's a workers' party. Quinto de mayo (not Mayo!) is incorrect. In Spanish, the ordinal number is used only for the first day of the month, cardinal numbers are used for all the others. El cinco de mayo is correct, el quinto de mayo is only correct if it means 'the fifth [something] of May', e.g. the fifth wedding of May.

05-05-05 is a holiday (Ascension Day), so I don't think I'll be doing much, just watching telly, relaxing and possibly going for some take-out or something, if I feel like straining myself...

In English for instance it is "fifth of May" because it is essentially short for "fifth day of May". Quinto día de mayo made more sense to me than cinco de mayo which is "five of May".

Thanks for the HUD though, Spanish is not my primary language (neither is English for that matter)

Yeah, in English (and all other Germanic languages), ordinal numbers are always used. But in Spanish (and, as far as I know, all other Romance languages), it's only for the first.

What's a HUD, though? dictionary.com has it as 'Department of Housing and Urban Development', but somehow I don't think that's what you meant... (neither English nor Spanish is my primary language either)

That is right, anyway that use is not much extended, people use to preffer go with the cardinal notation cause the ordinal notation is largely used to name weekends inside the month (e.g. primer Domingo de mes). Being honest I much preffer to say 'Nací el 1 de Enero' instead of 'Nací el primero de Enero'.

Nice to meet people out there that knows about Spain´s culture.

Is Spanish your first language (I mean, is English your second, or are you bilingual, etc.)?

I tried googling it, and 'el primero de mayo' brought up like fifteen times more hits than 'el uno de mayo', so it seems most of the Spanish-speaking world acts like my old Spanish teacher said they should, and disagree with you

Heh, knowing Spanish doesn't necessarily mean I know too much about Spanish culture
