ok not sure wheres best to ask this so heres as good as anywhere.

the new xbox uses PPC and the dev kits are g5 towers as we all know. but im wondering what os do these machines us? alot of the xbox fanboys are saying MS has a version of NT running on the dev kits. to me thats just crazy talk. is there/can there be any truth to this? or is ms merely running osX on the dev kits to get the games made?

also the new xbox has the ppc setup, and again they said it will run a version of NT. or a version of windows media center OS. if Ms has this stuff running on the game hardware is there any chance they will/can try to release a PPC version of windows at some point? would apple have any say in it?

im still trying to figure out if its even Possible to get a version of Nt to run on the g5s in any form. or is it feesable that Ms would build a small Os from the ground up to run on the next xbox.

Yes, a version of NT for the Xbox developers. No, I don't think Apple nor Microsoft would want this in "normal" G5s.

You could buy Windows NT for PPC and DEC Alpha CPUs. I don't know what OS the dev kits are running but I don't see why they (and the XBOX2) couldn't be running something based on NT.

i see. would it be a stripped down form or could it be rather functional if they wanted it to. also could it run regular windows apps or needs its own versions of software to run on it. why would they do all this for the dev kits instead of just running inside of osX? how hard would it had been to make the software needed to run native in X rather than do the whole Nt port?

does anyone have any ideas on if macos may run on the xbox in the future? i know its hard to say but just a guess... i think it would be cool to have a cheap xbox running tiger, and also just to stick it to ms in that way would be cool

I'd guess that as it's for a console it would be stripped down to support only the required hardware. Define 'rather functional'. It'll do the job it was intended to: play games.

also could it run regular windows apps or needs its own versions of software to run on it.
If these regular window apps were compiled for PPC and the stripped NT system. Yes. Otherwise. No.

why would they do all this for the dev kits instead of just running inside of osX?
They're developing a games system, not an emulator to run games in OSX.

how hard would it had been to make the software needed to run native in X rather than do the whole Nt port?
I'm guessing equally as hard. With lesser performance after all the work. Not to mention completely different goals.

Won't. Ever. Happen.

i know its hard to say but just a guess...
It was easy to say. I just said it.
