I use the internet provided by the university. My speeds usually stay around 17-19mbit with upload in the 1mbit range.

I hate it. I will change ISP at the end of contract... or at least upgrade the connection because that might make up for the downtime that we have every now and again.

56k modem. Painfully slow -- usually about 3KB/s down, much less up. We live about 10 miles from the nearest town, so yeah.

Speaking of that, damn Apple for removing "Pause" from the Software Update panel (it's now "Stop", which resets the download). I think I'm going to have to use Safari for software updates from now on.

DSL, 3Mbps down, 348kbps up. Typically I get a good 2.4Mbps down and at least 325kbps up. Life is good. I share it with my wife and son and we never seem to have problems surfing at the same time.

Similar up here on the Northern end of the State.
Have electricity from PG&E - but know that when we have
3 "brownouts" in a row, it's all about to go out.
Satellite internet would be above $70/month for me, not
including the cost of the equipment.
If I had a business where I could write it off - I'd jump on it.

768/768 K DSL right now... same thing I've had for 6 years. Moving to 2000/512 as soon as my provider gets the order done.

Highest cable speed one can get for a residential line here is 3000/384. If Charter could provide 7000/850 combo like someone listed, I'd be all over it.

I had DSL up until about a month ago. Then, I got into a little tifffy with the phone company. I felt they dicked me over. So in retaliation I cancelled my services from them and went for a package deal from my cable company which includes; digital cable television, cable telephone and cable internet.

Not sure of the rated speed for the connection, but I DL at around 550KB/s per second and my UL is around 75KB/s.

Not too shabby me thinks.

hehehe, 56k dialup at home, 2mbps at work. i'd get a real connection at home if i a) wasn't a cheap bastard, and b) didn't spend half my time at work on the net already. and i can't even use 'living in the boonies' as an excuse. sigh.

i'm getting around 2000kbps right now. tiger has slowwwwwwwed down my internet connection (i'm on a wireless network). i'm missing about 500kbps that i used to have.

how much per month if i may ask? i'm on a 3 month trial run and i DL at 280Kb/s maximum if I download from a fast server. most of the time it is much slower. i'm considering just returning to regular cable if it isn't that fast (the difference will be around 10-15 bucks a month).

While it looks like you've come out on top in the battle of wits with SBC (sometimes that isn't much of a contest!), I personally wouldn't have gone the same way. I have this problem with putting all of my eggs in one basket, so to speak, and depending on a cable TV company to maintain my telephone connection (with 911 and any other important communication hanging on it). This is no doubt due to my infrastructure maintenance background and my intense distrust for my local cable company that was "pure evil" even before being acquired by the "evil empire" of AOL-Time Warner.

In any case, I'm going to be interested to see how well this sort of thing works out, both for you and others. A friend just moved into a new house here, and went with the same kind of package from the [rant]evil, nasty, underhanded Time Warner cable people[/rant] local cable provider, so I'm sure to hear whatever plusses and minuses evolve from the package.
