Okay, I don't know where else to post this question but here - I think one of you might have a fast answer. Besides, I don't think this fits anywhere else (forum-wise.)

I need Charcoal font. Is there ANYPLACE to download it for free?

Why doesn't Apple use it anymore, anyway?

Thanks.

This really shouldn't be in the lounge (hint: the Art/Graphic Design forum). Anyway,

Hi Randman:

Actually, I know about myfonts.com but they want me to pay them for a font and I think I *might* be able to get it for free somehow.

THank you, though!

Now, here's the REAL question: Why did Apple stop using it?

Hi Paul:

Great sig! (You're cute!)

Anyway, maybe my head cold is getting to me but I'm trying to unzip the file and it's not working.

Unzips fine on my PB running Tiger. Not one of Apple's better fonts, imo.

No, it's not a great font. But a person from advertising in my spouse's company specifically wants Charcoal. I'm doing some freelance work for them and that's what they wanted. Have any other fonts you think are great, though, Randman? Anyone else?

THANK YOU, PAUL & WC...GOT THE FONT!

- THANK YOU!

Those sound so great, Randman.

I wish I had them...I'm a font whore.

Charcoal is still included with every new Mac. It's one of the Classic fonts. Installing Classic (and running it once to "activate" it so to speak) will suddenly make all the original Mac fonts available.

How do I remove Tiger, now?

It has screwed up the way I do some things. Like the screenshot capture is no longer .pdf and is instead .png and I have no "d" or "g" at the top of my Safari headings.

So, how do I (or can I) uninstall it?

Or, conversely, how can I use .pdf instead of .png when I want to do a screenshot? (I do a LOT of them and instantly mail them to people - it's important.) I'd even buy the ability to do it if necessary, but it was so easy under Panther and now I can't save that way.

Now I need Paully Dub or WaxCrash's help (or, of course, TOOKI MONSTER )

Thanks.

AFAIK there's no way to automatically take PDF screenshots with Tiger's built-in screenshot function - you could convert each of the shots you took automatically using AppleScript and/or Automator but in the long run, that's a pain in the behind. Snapz Pro X lets you take screenshots in various image formats - IIRC, *.pdf being one of them. Download the demo and see if it works for you.

There's a widget for Tiger called Capture which lets you set what type of format you want, jpg, tif, png, jp2, pict, bmf, tsif, psd.

Also, there's a widget called Type Cast which is nice for previewing fonts.

Okay. (Big sigh.)

Now I have to do the widget thing?

My eyes are crossing.

And someone told me that removing widgets will make the dashboard unstable. Is that true? How to safely remove a widget? SAFELY?

Just do a search for the widget and send it to the trash. Simple as that. It won't impact Dashboard's performance.

SnapZpro is the best program. I love it. Worth every penny!

Also have a look at their other program "Wiretap Pro"

For the price, might as well get PhotoShop Elements.
