So I'm browsing this site in firefox, and suddenly, out of nowhere, this guy starts talking to me in my headphones trying to convince me to buy a gateway laptop. I close the current tab I have open. Still talking. I close all the other tabs I have open, still talking. WTF. Shut up already. Where are you coming from??? At this point I'm starting to get a little scared, not sure whether the voice is coming from the computer or inside my head. Maybe I have a twisted subconscience that has a secret penchant for blasphemous computer companies? Searching desperately for a way to escape I start banging on my keyboard repeatedly and through sheer luck manage to hit Command+Q and exit out of Firefox. Silence. He's gone, finally.
This is the first time I've encountered such deadly advertising; ever happen to you?

Only in conjuction with an ad, never audio by itself. That's truly twisted.

Tell the voices in your head to dump their stock in GTW and buy up AAPL.
No more problems.

Sure it wasn't just the voices in your head? I'd be scared, if I were you. My voices always talk about fire and the apocalypse and being chosen and all that, but they never mention anything as wacked as buying a Gateway. Shudder.

Call Gateway's corporate offices and let them know that you strongly object to their advertising using such tactics. Not "customer service," or anything else. Here's their corporate contact page, and surprisingly all of the numbers are toll free.
The won't get the message-and they'll keep doing this kind of crap-if you don't tell them it's wrong.

There are Flash Ads with audio in them. Basically if using firefox, get the AdBlock extension and block out the advsertisers. Since I did that no more talking flash ads. the MacNN ads normally aren't annoying compared to the talking ones

Man, who would actually buy a Gateway laptop? I mean they're junk. Pure and simple. Like low end of the low end.

I do have that installed, that's the thing. This wasn't a flash ad.
