I've owned 5 iPods and 5 iPods have spontaneously hard-drive crashed or broken in other ways. My latest one spontaneously pauses songs whenever the hell it feels like it! Woo! I've spent probably 12-15 hours of my life getting tech support for my previous iPods, so it took me a while to muster up the willingness to deal with them again.
Well, I finally have the time and mental disposition to go down to the store and have them swap it out for a new iPod. Again. So I signed up for Genius Bar service online this morning at around 11 AM! Lawl.

On a semi-related note, i was just at the SoHo apple store last night to see the Coen Brothers' presentation on FCP. it was pretty cool. It always amazes me how crowded that store is. I got there at 6:50 for the 8:00 presentation, and every seat was already taken. it also looked like there was some children's workshop just finishing up, cause there were scads of little kids swarming around.
also, the Genius Bar there stays open until midnight for you to drop off repairs now, i think.

VERY FUNNY!
Hey, could you make one of them there cartoons for me? Only instead of it saying "Apple" could you make it say "Dell?"
That would make my day: I could show my husband because that's what's happening to him.
Good luck with the iPod stuff. You deserve a new iPod and a consolation gift besides.

my friend got a 3G iPod the first day they came out (at their 5-2-03 launch party. i've got the t-shirt somewhere) and eventually got applecare for it, too. He beat the hell out of that thing. it was covered in scratches, the headphone jack was loose, the case was separating, and the battery lasted about half as long as when he got it. Last week, he took it into the Short Hills apple store in Jersey and talked to the Genius there. We were the last people of the night that they helped, and we'd been waiting almost an hour by the time they got to us. the guy looked at it, looked up the serial number, and the applecare had expired the day before. Still, the Genius there said "well, for your patience, we'll give you a new one." so my friend walked out a few minutes later with a shiny new iPod to replace his old beaten-up, out of warranty one.
It won my friend over, who was skeptical about the whole Genius Bar thing until then, and i was pretty impressed, too.
