Ok, so whoever broke into my car, must of wanted my stereo more than I wanted. Shoot I should have left the door unlocked.
I am just amazed at how low people can get. Thanks to the perp that just took $500 worth of deductibles from my pocket to replace the stereo and the window. Not to mention the time I have to take off work to fix all this crap.
They even took the remote to the stereo.... OMFG Next step, car alarm!
Sorry to vent...

Dude, I know the feeling. Some years ago, someone smashed in the back window of my car to get a laptop case (used for carrying random papers, no computer in it) left in the back seat. The door, had they checked it, was not locked. I did later recover the case with contents intact (albeit a bit scattered over a yard), but was still mightily ticked, mostly because they didn't check before smashing. I ate the cost of the window outta my own pocket, as I had no glass coverage. Sigh.

Life is like a clay pigeon -- sooner or later, someone is going to shoot you down and even if they miss you'll still wind up shattered and broken in the end.

That's exactly what I am doing... Eating the cost of progressives deductible (500 USD) to cover the stolen items, and glass. Maybe if I was 25 (24 now), I could afford a smaller deductible... but not right now.

Had my old car broken into several times before I finally had it and started leaving the window cracked 4-6 inches and the door unlocked (as well as not leaving anything valuable at all in the car. That way if someone is desparate or stupid enough to want the pennies and nickles from the coin tray they can knock themselves out with me having to replace the glass.
.....note....I became quite adept at hunting through scrapyards for replacement glass, a lot cheaper if you can install it yourself....

It's a good think you used photoshop to point out the big hole in your dash and the busted window or I wouldn't have known what I was looking at.

I always leave my door unlocked on my truck.
The last POS that decided to root through it got my pistol stuck to the back of his head while I called the cops.
My door was smashed from here my wife backed it into her Blazer so it wouldn't even shut.
I heard the loud creaking sound it makes when you had to tear it open to get in.

I lived in Philly for about a year, but after only about a month my car was broken into. Took CDs and the usual stuff from the trunk, but what got me was when I stepped out of my front door of the house I looked down to see a neatly stacked column of pennies. Only after walking a block down to my car did I find the window smashed and my stuff gone. So they were telling me "We know where you live, and we don't take pennies".

I'm sorry to hear about your loss spatterson. Just another sad comment on our current society.

I think everyone has had their car broken into at least once. Mine was in Coventry, England visiting my brother when I was stationed in Germany. It was in the middle of the day in a parking lot in full view of the street. They broke a window looking for the stereo, which was removable. Once they found it wasn't in the glove compartment, they ripped out the radio mount and stomped it.
Had they got the radio it still wasn't worth anything. It was only a POS Blaupunkt. Hardly worth the effort really.

I've had two cars broken into. The first time they stole the stereo, but left over $1000 worth of Nikon SLR camera and lens (thankfully they were dumbasses). The second time, the stereo was stolen, along with my Thinkpad laptop at the time. Homeowners covered the laptop. Ever since then, I quit buying aftermarket stereos. I just buy cars with upgraded factory stereo options, it seems like they're less desirable to theives.

Well the car is in the shop now... it will take till MONDAY to fix it... Lucky for me that I have a renal insurance too... so I have a s***y little blue thing parked out side (Chevy Aveo). Will have a new stereo put in there plus an alarm in the coming weeks. I hope those bastards are happy with their stereo.

I had a really crappy little cd player stolen (like the handheld kind). I wasn't upset about the player, mostly about the Björk - Post cd in the player, which I have yet to replace. I have mp3s, but it just isn't the same.
I also had a player stolen from the car when the door wasn't locked. It was cheap, and we traded the car in that weekend anyway, when we bought a new car. Both times I felt pissed off about it though. Mostly at myself, though.

I don't think leaving a car or truck unlocked will stop the jerks from breaking glass to get in-they're kind of accustomed to doing that. They also like to break things for the hell of it. My goddaughter's car was broken into for the stereo, and they tore up the dash, the structure UNDER the dash, and enough of the interior getting it that the car was totaled. That made me want to put a size 12 combat boot up somebody's @ss pretty severely-she was away at college and needed the car for transportation. The sleeze didn't care about that, just the $30 or so they got for the aftermarket CD player they litterally tore out of the car. I hope they ODd on what they bought with their ill gotten gains. pant...pant...pant.
I really, REALLY hate that this had to happen to you, spatterson. Having your car broken into is a violation of your personal space second only to having your home broken into (mine was in two different homes), and it has similar psychological effects to being assaulted. It does take a while to get over-I'm not over sleezeballs messing with my goddaughter, and that was at least five years ago. But you will get better. Trust me on that.

That bites. I'd rather have the whole car stolen and stripped than to deal with a "tainted" vehicle. Oops, I already have. I think I've posted this before. My 1999 Civic Si (just over a year old when it was stolen:

If anyone ever broke into my truck, they would be very disapointed with what they found. About $.26 in the ashtay, a 70's AM radio, a really old CB radio and a shitload of trash under the seat. But as long as they dont break the windscreen its not too bad since ive got all the other windows in my parts trucks. Now if they went into the camper shell on the back there is about $400~ worth of tools and other junk. The thing that really sucks is with a 1978 truck, all you need to get it going is another Nissan style ing. switch. No wheel lock at all.
