Microsoft strategy. (what was discussed in a class on Strategy i took a couple of semesters ago)...
Wait for the companies with balls to do the research and development, wait till they create a market for the product and then, take whats been developed, repackage it, change a few colors, increase the specs a bit(because by this time the technology is cheaper), and sell it for half the price. Therefore they dont have to bear the burdeon for R&D (stuff like figuring out why menu bars are at the top as opposed to the bottom, or what are the features people need in a web browser, or why a 'D-pad' on a console control are on the left, while buttons are on the right, etc...).
You see it in their CEOs and managers....'No culture, no original shaping'...they sit on the sidelines while real innoators do the work, and then come in with a duplicate product at a lower price to 'compete'.
Bill's 'genius' (is you want to call it that), is that hes applied that strategy to every market hes gotten into. it makes money, which is why people take what he says seriously and buys what he sells. But some people on this planet....prefer talent, craftmanship and passion to common theivery....
