I've had the name for about 6 years, kinda sucks.

I signed out of AIM and was trying to sign in with iChat (which I have set to auto-login) and it prompted me for my password, saying mine was wrong. now it won't log in under any chat client.

I've been entering the correct password, and it won't work.

AOL said that if a person has had their AIM screen name stolen, for now they can use the program's "forgot password" feature to have an email sent to the address they provided at registration that includes the account's current password. Then the original holder of the screen name can reset the password once again.

Have you tried using a different computer?
I think something similar happened to me several months ago. Sometimes I use AIM, sometimes iChat. My brother called me and asked why I was being such a d***. I had no clue what he was talking about, and he said I was sending not nice messages on AIM. I tried to logon, but it wouldn't let me saying my password was wrong. He was still getting messages while I was on the phone with him.

I signed into AIM from another computer, and he sent a message to whoever was talking as me and it came to me. The conversation switched to me and him, and we have no clue what happened to the other person or if AIM just messed up. The only real problem with the whole thing was that my buddy list was reset, so I lost a lot of people's user names that I rarely talk to.

Edit: if you have an older iMac with the OS8 or 9 client, try that. That's how I finally got logged in.

heh, just sold my iMac with OS9 on it, crapola.

GoRickey, being that it was 5 years ago, it was linked to an old ISP's email address, which I no longer have access to.

rats.

on another note, I have AIM forwarding on, and my name shows up in my buddylist(a diff screenname) as being mobile.

any way I can recover or reset my password being that I'm signed in this way?

What kind of fist F'er steals AIM screen names. Anyway if you do end up being able to log on, change the email address linked to your screen name. Then change your password, obviously.

yay!

on a hunch, I attempted logging into an old (about six years) excite email account, and it was deactivated as a result of inactivity. It allowed me to re-open the account, and then I requested my password change thru aim.com. I got the email, changed my pass, and I'm back.

but damn, who's gonna go guessing my password like that? a fist ****er, that's who.
(unless of course it was some freak act of Internet)

I had an AIM logon for a job back in 99-2000. About a year ago when I started with Adium, I tried it for the heck of it and still logged on, user lists and everything.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.
