Ok, I'll admit it, I'm getting seriously addicted to WoW (World of War"crack"). I've been playing for a month and a half and I have a 40lvl druid, a 24lvl mage, and an 18lvl priest. It's severely cut into my "spare time" and killed my productivity, I play 3-5 hours /night (and so do the girls). We all run quests together, for the most part, and have other RL friends in the guild we joined. So there's always something that needs to be done, and we're always getting instance invites and such. It's really been a blast.
Anyway, anyone else stuck on this game? Do you play with your SO? Have RL friends you game with? Impressions of the game? Etc..

Getting close to 1 year now (counting the beta), and still majorly hooked. Guess it's a good thing I really didn't have a life to be disrupted, no?

Maybe you should start an AA program for addicted WoW players.

My wife doesn't play. My friend comes over and we'll hack around Whisperwind. I'm 36, he's 39. I'm currently saving for a mount. One thing, though - the game WILL burn you out if you play too much. That happened to me with EQ1 and EQ2.

Know what you mean. Some nights I want to read or watch a movie and Kim will come and get me, "we need you for an SM or BFD run". *sigh* So far, I've avoided the burnout, but I am afraid that they're getting obsessed... when school's out at the end of the month, it'll be even worse.

I was once addicted to a game for over a year, playing about eight hours a day! It was insane, and even though I had a lot of fun during the game, I always felt empty once I closed the window, as if my life was wasting away. I quit after a year, but returned to it a few months later, thinking that I could manage my time better. Bad choice. I finally quit for good on December 24, 2002. Yes, I remember the day. It was a great day . I haven't played any games since. No matter how angry I get, I remember that playing the game, while it might temporarily alleviate my stress, will destroy me in the long run.
If you ever find yourself addicted to a game, just delete it and don't look back. You won't regret it. I certainly don't.

I only played the Open beta. When I decide its worth to choke up the change I might do it, or I might find something else. With my current system it really wouldn't be worth it.

Abuse of drugs like Coke: - Will affect your social life (probably in a bad way after you become a coke head)
- Will affect your health, both mentally and physically
- Will cause unpleasant withdrawal symptoms
- Will probably change your life, in a negative way (e.g. big losses of productivity (tho coke might actually boost it... but anyway), etc.)
Abuse of MMORPGs like WoW
R.I.P., Adam Betts and My Cousin.
There are responsible ways to play, there are responsible ways to do drugs.

I'm hooked on it...haven't had nearly enough time to play lately as I've had lots of homework to keep up with, but over the summer, my first goal will be to hit level 60! :-P
By the way, I'm Arlynn on Whisperwind, a level 38 mage.

I play World of Warcraft. I have a level 33 druid named Khato on Cenarion Circle.
Usually I just sit down for 3 hours every few days. I tell myself "OK, I have quest : blank :. I'm just going to finish it and that's my goal". As a result my guy hardly ever levels. But it's still fun. Every once in a while when I feel burned out I'll just play for like 6-7 hours.
My roommate was addicted to Warcraft 3. He managed to uninstall Warcraft 3 from his computer, but then was looking for a new game. I wasn't planning on buying World of Warcraft, but somehow he decided that World of Warcraft would be harder to get addicted to and he bought it, so I bought it too. He's very much addicted to it. Never goes and sees his girlfriend anymore, hardly ever comes outside. He never does anything but play that game, although he does do homework sometimes while he plays it.
My girlfriend has a more funny view of it. I don't think she likes when I play it. She makes fun of my roommate playing it all the time.
It's kinda sad I never see Adam on aim anymore or anything. Wonder how he pays the bills.
Anyway, ima going to go watch the Enterprise finale now.

My absent from community and graphics works have little to do with WoW really. I have a serious stomach disease and I can't handle stress no matter how little it is. There's a "memory leak" in my stomach that's consuming up all of my energy. I know it sounds like excuses but it's a fact and I'm still seeing doctors for this.
I'm without a question addicted to WoW because I've always loved all of Blizzard's games but it's not in the way you're thinking of. If you read most health articles, they actually recommended playing games (including MMOG) to take your mind off on health problem. The more you think about health, the worser it gets.
I'm still around on the net but rarely visit MacNN Forum because it's too deja vu for me if you know what I mean

One of my best friends gets very easy addicted to RPG games. First it was diablo 1-2, which he played about 8 hours EVERY day for ca. 4 years (at least). Now its WoW. Since he got the game his day consists of: work 7 hours, sleep 7, transport/ eating/ toilet/ girlfriend 2 hours, WoW 8 hours. I've tried to talk to him, but the addiction is just too strong. The other sad thing is that he's getting less intersting to meet with - he only thinks and talks about PvP, level up, new special items and guilds.
I have also been addicted to games (Warcraft 3/Civilization/madden/etc.). It felt like I was throwing my life away. Watching TV made me feel the same way. I threw the TV away - what a difference - i suddenly got so much extra time! I still play games and love it (ca. 2 hours a day).
The irony of it all is that i'm a bachelor student of film- and media science, and are going to make my master in game design.

I found it impossible to get addicted to games like WoW. I tried Lineage II as well, they were just so boring, it felt more to me like work playing those games then actually doing my homework which I bought them to try to get away from. Games that I do easily become addicted to are racing sims..and games like Grand Theft Auto. Man...I've wasted way too much of my life on games like that.

Erm funny you mention that, because I have played D&D and have enjoyed it as well. Also played neverwinter nights, but never got horribly addicted. I enjoyed playing wow and stuff but only here and there a couple times a week, I was never able to be like all my friends who were on all day. All the grinding was just so boring, even the questing was boring, I rather sit here bored all night reading crap on the internet and highlighting **** on my desktop for hours on end...

Considering my Nintendo addiction in Jr. high... I don't buy console gaming systems. I just couldn't live with that feeling you get a few days after ending a game that you just wasted part of your life (perhaps it was just me?).

I hardly ever go and gank at Tarren Mill, it's just too easy. Bunch of noobs and low level NPCs, no skill in that. Want fun? Go raid Crossroads or Ogrimar (or even Thunderbluff). Now that can be a challenge.

At 41 I'm in the same boat, my job is to provide healing support and Moonfire spam (used on the higher level Horde that are down to 10% on HP). But, I do rack up quite a few CPs and a decent amount of kills.
Edit: I've seen 200 person raids before, especially in Ogrimar (200 Alliance vs. 150-200 Horde). Talk about nasty (and horrible lag).

I'm up to 54 HKs, and 225 CPs. Hopefully I'll wake up to a new title tomorrow. Someone I spoke to yeaterday said they got "Private" with only 40 HKs last week, and he was level 42 so I can't see him doing much more than you or I.
I think Battlegrounds opens tomorrow.

I canceled my subscription yesterday and distributed my gold and non-soulbound items to guild members. I would sit for hours playing WoW, sometimes stand around in Ironforge jumping or dancing for no damned reason, and even stayed up 24 hours straight to make sure I won an item in the auction house. I had to get away from the game.

2 Lev 60's on Whisperwind (Sosuyou a Paly and Candris a Mage) here...
Yes, I confess, I am addicted. (And I also confess to making only 3 posts on NN in the last nine months as a direct result of WoW!)
Lucky, due to circumstances beyond my control, I have no life to disrupt at the moment, so it is not that damaging... however I see how it could be if I were not to constantly try to keep it in check.
Been playing for over a year now... alas, still not burnt out!

I have 2 more preproduction WoW giant boxes. Well, not boxes yet. They're printed on the sheets and you'd have to cut/fold them yourself. These were test runs for retailers.
My brother works from the company that designed the box and got a few. I had 5, kept one, sold 2. Have 2 more if anyone's interested. $200.
Thought I'd ask here before I stuck 'em on eBay.
You're not a true addict unless you have a giant WoW box on your desk.

I suppose, for me, the great thing about it is playing online with RL friends/family (chatting on Ventrilo while playing). If it weren't for them, I'd probably lose interest.

$200 for an empty box when the CE goes for $175?

Let's see...$200 for an empty box or $300 for a GBA that's already $100 and signed by the creator of one of the most popular videogame franchises in the world.
indeed. You're saying that your empty box is worth the same as Miyamoto's signature?

Someone sent me this link to a funny WoW video. It's this guild fighting some tough flying monster thingies, and just having a bad time overall.
I could not get VLC to play it, so it looks like you'll need WMP, but it's worth it. Check it out!
