I'm hoping someone knows the answer so I can get some pics of the shuttle. I have googled everything I can think of, but have come up empty. Can anyone tell me if there is a location off the the cape canaveral grounds that is open to the public that I can see the shuttle from while it is sitting on the launch pad?

I ask this question in complete ignorance, but am dying to take some pictures with out taking the tour of the cape...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Contact the Kennedy Space Center. They have a public relations department designed to answer all of your questions.

Typically, launches are viewed from one of the causeways. You must get a pass, which is not always easy. Time is short and I do not know what limitations KSC imposes in light of 9-11. However, it is my understanding that hey have "lightened up" some to allow visitors access to viewing launches.

You will need a long lens and a tripod!!!

The visitor center of the KSC is well worth visiting. They have tours and all kinds of things to see. The tour bus might get you close to the pad before the start launch procedures, but I don't know.

You need to call them and get the information.

I think the phone number is: (321)449-4444

there are many places in north titusville that you can get a visual on the pads. but unless you have a major telephoto lens, you're not going to see much. drive out to playalinda beach (canaveral national seashore)
some pics http://www.shaftnet.org/~pizza/album...da/thumb1.html
it's your best view without taking the tour.

oh one more thing they now charge for entry into the vistor center. greedy maggots.

and a little known secret prior to sept 11 2001. you could ask your senator or congress person for a launch pass. and they usually provided them. don't know if that applys now?

and a little warning about playalinda beach. the north end is where the nudist hang out.
