AirTunes Remote Control is coming.

This sounds like the remote control would be WiFi based, which makes sense.

Oh, and I bet a 3rd party app to use it with anything will come along too.

Sounds nifty.

It may be here ... but it sucks. Basic transport control only. Apple needs to develop a real iTunes remote. Something with a display that allows a user to navigate by Artist, Album, Genre, and Playlist. Basically an iPod with a color screen without the internal hard drive.

As for the current third party remote available now, I probably overstated it when I said it sucked. I should say that it is limited and doesn't enable a user to fully experience their iTunes library. I can use my bluetooth cell phone and Salling Clicker to get basic transport control .... and I get same basic capabilities to navigate the library at that. Unfortunately the bluetooth connectivity is a bit flaky for this purpose and the navigation is nowhere near as nice as the iPod interface. But it does work even if it is a bit cumbersome.

Anyway, Apple really needs to get on the ball and release an color iPod without an internal HD to use as a remote for AirTunes. That would be a really great "digital hub" product.

Steve is speaking at D: All Things Digital next week. He released the Airport Express there last year.

I really hope that Airtunes Remote has a display and works on WiFi basis.
Please no Shuffle-like remote with 3 buttons and no display...

I'm afraid that there is a pretty big chance that it's indeed a shuffle-like device if it's released.

I hope not.

As if we didn't already have third party devices that do that. I hope that Apple is once again innovative, and not just copying existing ideas...
