"It’s Game Boy Micro! They just announced a new portable that’s “just a hair bigger and about two thirds the weight of an iPod mini. But it will play every Game Boy Advance game you own. It’ is not new technology, but it is a brand new look. ... It has the best and brightest screen we’ve ever put in a hand held. No matter how tight your jeans, it’ll fit in your pocket.” To market in fall, to “the image conscious consumer”. It is not a successor, but an “extension of portable play”."

Well, aren't we a fanboy. This wasn't meant to compete with the PSP It was meant to eke more sales out of the Gameboy advanced. (which I'm sure it will do)

It has no cover.
I already have THREE GBAs (so much for your "fanboy" comment)
"It can fit in pants pockets". One word: CRACK
I don't even see speakers

How much are they going to milk this horrible piece of 90's technology?

I thought N was supposed to unleash their PSP killer at E3.

If this thing is $50 than it's great. If it's more than that, it sucks.

Agreed. This will just be a little product that the N sells, but ain't a main attraction.

So where is the next GameBoy. Seems like this is the only time within a year they would announce it.

The screen should have been bigger. It'd be more attractive if it reached the edge like on the PSP.

i think it looks very cool and sleek, and small....but hardly anything to be a showstopper at E3when M$ and SONY announce theire highend nextgen systems. But alas, i gots no need to portable gaming....would make a nice gift for my younger cousing though.

It looks cool to me, why didn't they do the DS in that style instead of Cheapo Plasticko?

Gameboy SP is £70, Gameboy micro, more or less than £70?

Look after my manor, or I will bum you, literally, to death.

beleive it or not, i still like the original NES controller. the PSP has too much going on....im all about simplicity....minimilistic design, uncluttered, fewer buttons. hence i like the GameCube, and iPod.

Launch is slated for this Fall. (SAME TIME AS XBOX 360 hmmmm)
Silver in color for now, expect all sorts of rainbow-flavored variations.
Dimensions: 4 inches wide by 2 inches tall and 0.7 inches thick.
Weight: 2.8 ounces (80 paper clips’ worth of weight).
Processor: Same as GBA SP.
Form factor: “Gleaming shoulder and start/select buttons that literally shine”, removable and customizable face plate.
Screen: 2-inches, backlit and the “best Game Boy screen ever” with adjustable brightness controls for use indoors or outdoors.
Marketing angle: “We’re making the gorgeous Game Boy Micro for image-conscious folks who love video games, the ones who want the look of their system to be as cool as the games they play on it” according to George Harrison, Nintendo of America Sr. VP of marketing. It’s clear that they’re going after the kids who are too cool to carry around an obvious gaming device but who don’t mind carrying something that looks like the cell phone that they’re already carrying.
Accessories: built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery; supports standard headphones.
Software: the Game Boy Advance has nearly 700 titles available, all of which will be playable on the Game Boy Micro.

why would i be stunned that mindfad likes it? I like it myself. i wont get one, but i like it none the less. the gba sp is small enough for me, since i'm not a hardcore gamer, i wont need this, but for those who like smaller and more portable systems (the emphasis is on portability) this thing rocks!

If it's in the $50-60 range, I'm all over it. My friends has been borrowing my GBA SP for awhile now, so this would be a nice replacement, and I can let him have the SP (even if it is the NES one *sniffle*).

4" x 2" is tiny. Wow. I wonder if you'll even be able to read the screen. Some of those games already have tiny text. What happens when it's 50% smaller?

If it's playable, I want. The PSP, the DS, as lovely as they may be are just too big for my practical needs. I need something I can fit in one of my pockets. And I already have a few GBA games.

But gotta see that screen, and the price.

I made a scale GB Micro on a sheet of paper and I don't see how this thing is going to be playable. The screen is the size of an iPod screen. The whole thing is just to small to be practical.

Some games would probably work OK but I think the screen will just be too small for most of them.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

The screen is the same size as the current screen. The body is not. Or am I wrong? It makes no sense that they would go for a smaller screen.

The screen is much smaller. Print out that jpeg at 4" wide and see for yourself. It's the size of an iPod screen.

The screen is 2" (diagonally, i assume). And they described it as the "Best Game Boy screen ever." so what does that mean? Does it just mean the brightest? highest DPI (i would hope)?

The screen is obviously much smaller.

Just about everyone who buys the PSP gets it because of the large screen.

I don't think Nintendo even dreams this competes with the PSP, but it's nice of you to inject the PSP into this conversation.

BTW, what did you think of the latest DS sales figures? I thought the PSP was supposed to be wiping the floor with the DS now. The DS market share has double since the PSP arrived.

Still don;t get it eh. The PSP hasn't hit Europe yet, the DS has been on sale worldwide much longer. I've mentioned that to you a million times but you always convienantly forget. Remember how the PS2 cleaned up because it was first to the market.

The PSP is selling REALLY well. It is a brand new system who is selling almost as much as the highly popular gameboy with a huge library. It also costs much more yet is selling like hotcakes.

Sorry

My local Costco must have a lot of hotcakes sitting around in bins then. They better go warm them up before they get cold or something. I think they've been there for a while.

In my whole Computer Science class no one even knew what a PSP was, except for the professor.

Yep. Thats the PSP's popularity for you. Even the geeks don't know about it.

from ign:
Along with the small size comes a smaller screen than the Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Advance SP system. The LCD screen is far, far more bright and vibrant than the GBA SP system, more in line with the backlight technology of the Nintendo DS system. GBA games are definitely much more vivid in light and color on the device, and text is completely legible even at the slightly smaller size.

another image

link if for some reason the image does not work

Enough console wars. We all need to go back to the basics, all the way back to the stone age.
Then again, we'll have people flaming each other on which rocks are better for beating people up with.

Why would anyone want that junk over a GBA?

Funny how all the PSP haters were bashing it because it didn't have a cover, but now the N fanboys love this thing to death, and it doesn't have a damn cover either!

Maybe because a) protection is more valuable the larger the screen and the more expensive the unit and b) this is not to compete with the PSP.

I think the point is it does what its made to do, its small, and its freakin cheap. Its for the people who normally couldn't justify buying it, or want something smaller.
