whatever happened to Avadis Tevanian? at one point he was in the news every other week as he was heading up the Rhapsody / Mac OS X development effort.
now... haven't heard a peep from or about this guy recently.
he's listed on the apple exec page as Chief Software Technology Officer:
http://www.apple.com/pr/bios/
but apparently has been replaced by Bertrand Serlet as head of software engineering. From his bio on the above page, Serlet was also a NeXTie and seems to have been under Avie during the initiat Rhap/OSX development.
Has Avie stepped aside? Or what happened? Can anyone shed light on his current role at Apple?

From what I recall Avie is promoted to a new position newly created by Steve Jobs, to Chief Software Architect.
From what I read on books about Steve's stint at NEXT, Avie served under Dr. Bud Tribble (an Apple Software Engineer/one of the fathers of the original Mac who left with Steve to cofound NEXT) who was Steve's top software guy during the NEXT days but Bud "abandoned" Steve during to dark days/fallout at NEXT to SUN and Avie replaced Bud.
Bud did come back to work for Steve about 2 years ago and is one of Tiger's engineers. Now Bud serves under Avie; it pays to be loyal.

It's funny, one time when I had problems with my display, I ended up getting transferred a few times and finally ended up with someone who while talking to (was waiting for some tests to finish), who said he had worked for NeXT for ages, that was an interesting convo

Wow, I had no idea that Tribble contributed anything else to Apple other than his work on the original Mac. Can you point me to your source on the subject?

Some book I've read that has some info on Dr. Bud Tribble are:
The Second Coming of Steve Jobs
Revolution in the Valley
And some bits and pieces of Bud Tribble & NeXT by Googling.
