I have a motorola V551, I use mp3 trimmer to make my own, then send them via bluetooth to my phone.

There are ways to do it without BT, but all are a little more complicated. Card reader (if your phone has a memory card), uploading a ringtone to a wap site and downloading it that way, etc.

Here's what I do:

1. Open an audio track on a CD with Audacity (the tracks show up as AIFF files, which Audacity can open)

2. Grab the portion that I want, trim it to that portion, save as an AIFF on the hard drive.

3. Import the resulting AIFF into iTunes.

4. Convert the AIFF to a 64 Kbps mono MP3 file using iTunes (as most cell phones don't have stereo speakers)

5. Send the resulting MP3 file to the phone via Bluetooth. Voilà!

Same procedure here (you have an SE phone as well, I assume?). The next turd whose cell phone plays "Für Elise", "Beethoven's 9th" or anything from Britney Spears will have his phone force-fed to him.

Weirdly enough though, my (non-representative) experience is that Europeans seem a lot worse in terms of choosing retarded ringtones and generally inconsiderate behavior when it comes to cell phones. Anyone make similar observations?

I use Coltrane, Beastie Boys, Outkast, Diff'rent Strokes themesong, etc. I trim up the mp3s myself and bluetooth them to the phone.

Yes, I observed the same thing. But the U.S. is catching up. (Remember, most of our phones are 1-2 generations behind yours, so you got the whole ringtone thing a couple of years before us.)

Well some people are going for something a little less annoying then the lame ass preset ringers on cell phones today.

Im for originality.. Although i am not a huge fan of most of the music that people choose as ring tones.
