My Dad has just bought one (an 'iPod Classic'). They are therefore no longer cool I'm afraid.
However, there is an obvious up-side: ubiquity. That people like my Dad are buying iPods shows that the digital music revolution is no longer just for the technophile minority.

It's a great product. The trend has never been the reason for my purchase. The more they are around, the better. It supports the company that makes our OS, not to mention the company who also makes the great music player. It's a good situation.

on scientific american, alan alda was being used as a study subject on a brain experiment. there was a survey he had to take to determine whether a product was "cool" or "uncool" on a scale from 1-5 or somethingiw th 5 be very cool.
after flipping through some stuff that was uncool and some borderline... he says "finally, something unquestionably very cool". i was like... he must have seen the 50 cent video.

Not an iPod in sight during the Star Wars 3 movie, so yeah...they aren't cool anymore. The Yoda Edition iPod mini® would still sell-out though...

Looks like Racquel Welch's fuzzy drawers from 1,000,000 BC.

I never cared if they were "cool" or not, I wanted a portable music player that would last all day at work, didn't require be carrying CDs around, and worked 100% on my Mac. I'll have this 2G til it dies.

I would say it's no longer "unique"... but it's still cool. It's not like there are any worthy alternatives.

I'll be the first to admit that I enjoy having a "cool" toy from time to time, but I don't feel like the iPod is now "uncool" it's just considerably more mainstream.
