I hate almost all cell phone ring tones, so I keep it on vibrate. Needs to be in my pocket for if I want to know someone is calling.

I voted pant pocket because it's to warm here to wear a coat, and I'd look like a smoker if I bought pocket tees.

Same, except that mine vibrates for a bit before ringing (about half the time I can get it out and decide whether to answer it before it starts ringing). The vibrate isn't strong enough, when I'm walking I can't feel it, so then it'll ring so that I know someone is calling.

i have one of those. altho it's leather, so it's not all that ugly. besides, it is far easier to access my phone that way. i have other things in my pockets, and i don't want the antenna poking me when i sit down.

i carry around 2 phones (err, when im at work). one is a work phone. a nextel. i keep it on a belt clip thing, when im at work. my main phone (t637) goes in front right pants pocket, always.
1, i dont want 2 phones banging around in my pocket. 2, the nextel is sort of thick, like almost 2x as thick as my t637. i dont need that stretching out my pants or making people think i'm walking around all excited all day or something.

Personally I don't have a cell phone. My wife carries hers on a belt clip. The backup in a bag. She uses her in a car as a visiting nurse.

If I'm wearing my fav. pants, it's in my right cargo cell phone pocket. 2" above the knee. On all other pants, either on my front R pocket or in my right B pocket (if walking).

Belt clips look dumb, but they're really convenient. Especially since I don't like having things in my pockets.
I carried my phone on a belt clip until I broke it ...doing stuff.

Mine is usually in the outer pocket in my bag, on silent mode. That way, I don't have to worry about forgetting to take it with me (since I pretty much have my bag with me at all times), or turning it off during class/work. And I'm not important enough or have enough friends that my phone rings/SMS-vibrates more than a couple of times a day, so I don't need to always have it super-available.
When I'm at home, I usually just put it somewhere - usually on my desk - and then spend ten minutes looking for it every time I go out or if it buzzes/rings...

Mine is usually in the pocket on silent. I don't like getting bad looks from professors for having the phone on in class. I have an antenna on my phone too and it's a samsung A740 and that is not old at all. Just barely had it a month. Most CDMA phones have an antenna.

I refuse to buy a phone that doesn't have an external antenna after having a few "antenna-less" nokias, where the antenna was there alright, it was a metal plate around the edge of the LCD (hidden underneath the outer plastic) -- what a terrific spot to put it, just where the phone tends to butt up against your head when using it.
I prefer to know where the antenna is (preferably as far away from my head when in use as possible), than not. Thankfully, you can get these "stubby" antennas that are only about 1cm long maybe.
BTW leaving your phone in the car is an easy way to get a broken window

Exactly. After having 2 antenna-less phones, the next one I buy will definetly have an external antenna. I'll check how much service I have (with the phone in front of me), then I'll move it to my ear and the service will drop, often times not allowing me to make a call.
I don't mind having a < 1" antenna sticking out of a phone as long as I can make and receive calls more reliably, which is what a cell phone is for.

Cell phone in the front right pocket. Left right pocket: house and car keys. Back right pocket: wallet. iPod mini in my coat or when it's hot I use the supplied clip for that one, or when I forget that one it goes in a back pocket. I couldn't imagine putting a big ipod in your pockets.
Phone always vibrates, the sound is mostly on except when I'm at places where it could bother people, simple as that.

The problem you're having is really simple. Cell phone coverage (any network) sucks in the US.

There are a lot of aftermarket antennas that are telescopic like the oldschool phone ones were, tends to come in handy since you can stick em in your pocket nice and comfy yet when you need em, you get em

I spend 16 hours a day talking on my cell phone so it never gets a chance to make it too my pocket.
I'm just that important.
Oh yeah, and not only does my cell phone not have an antenna, It's so devoid of an antenna that it has a hole where the antenna should be. I use the hole to store rolled up hundred dollar bills and supermodel's phone numbers.

In other words, you don't own a cell phone, do you?
Hate antennas on cell phones. That's so last century. I prefer a leather case. Can still feel it when it's on vibrate and you don't have to worry about keys or coins scratching it when it's in your pocket.
Besides, a good portion of the time, I have bluetooth on and just use the bt headset. Add voice commands (Nokia 6630) and you don't even need to pull the phone out except to sms.

Front right trouser pocket. My v620 is my first phone to have an external aerial on it and my first flip phone (Nokia 3310 > SE T610 > Nokia NGage QD > v620), and i didn't like the aerial, so I fitted one of those short metal aerials instead. It's fine now, just has a little metal stump. Flip phone is great though, my pocket doesn't call people after forgetting to lock the keypad anymore!

I am one of those people that hates flip phones and hates external antennas. I have a nokia 3100 and a motorola v300 and the nokia is much better in terms of coverage (they are both gsm the nokia is cingular and the POS is t-mobile) and really in every other way as well. The motorola has external buttons which press themselves and make this really irritating sound while my nokia locks the keypad automatically after 5 minutes so its no problem in my pocket.
I always keep my nokia in my front left pocket and until the crappy clip broke I kept the t-mobile phone on my belt, now I just don't take it with me as much.

I'm with the belt-clip/antenna hatin crowd. I've been through too many damn phones in the last few years. IMO, just can't beat the SE 6xx series. Leave it in my pocket, nothing to flip. Reception could be a little better but all in all the best overall phone I've ever had.

I said "on a belt clip" but I'm not talking about a "lightsaber" style belt clip. (Lucasfilm ACTUALLY used the same standardized button and slot design as is used on cell phones for the last three films!) What I use is a holster, which has its own belt clip. The phone sits in the holster, and when I need it, I lift the flap and pull the phone out. It's not dangling in the way, but it is handy. I've tried keeping my phone in my pocket, but the phone just manages to find the deepest part of the pocket-every time-and that makes it very hard to get at.

technically all cellphones have an antenna, some are just internal. I prefer external antenna phones because you can ensure that the phone is as far away from your head as possible. You wouldn't put your head in a microwave oven would you?

Sony phones suck. Their screens are the worst. Brick phones suck.
(SHoS, please don't post a link to the hottest new hot hot Sony phone.. I'm talking all your T6XX phones, without the bluetooth, would just be steaming poo... look at that screen! It's like looking at an old ass laptop screen from 1995.)
having said that: front right pocket, vibrate at work, ring elsewhere. external ant.

okay... the T637 is my first phone from S/E. Were you a former S/E owner? I think it's okay.. for the screen, bluetooth, and build quality. I never used a flip phone and candy bar phones suit me better.

Dude, chill. You stated your opinion and I don't see any reason why anyone would give you crap for it. As for raggin' on your phone.. there's no point. I mean, ****, you have Sprint so all I can say is "I'm sorry."

I think people like their phones dialing numbers in their pocket.
The one thing I always hated about nokia phones was that damn "navi" button.

In my pocket. It displaced my Palm which now sits at home, lonely, because I refuse to wear a belt clip for gadgets.
