Hi Everyone:

Black Book emailed me yesterday to tell me that he has modified the "Capture" widget for Mac OS X:

Hi there.

I'm the author of the Capture widget. I seen some one recommend it to you in a thread a while back about you needing PDF support, I believe. Well - I added in the ability to save as PDF just for you

You can get the newest version at my site: http://vanillasoap.com/widgets/

It's still a bit rough round the edges, but it should hopefully make you more inclined to stay with Tiger

Cheers
I downloaded it and LOVE it and recommend that all of you do also. I think it's awesome that he did this and I appreciate and am sure all of you will also.

Now, here's another question:

How do I "save" to a .pdf using Windows (sorry - I know it's making you guys cringe but I want to know if it's possible) instead of Mac OS X? I want to use a program that's similar.

I just received a new computer (notebook) courtesy of the company I work for and it's not a PowerBook, unfortunately. I really like the keyboard, though.

Anyway, I'm going to unload one of my PowerBooks also (with AppleCare and a 1.5Ghz 15") as I have two of them so if anyone needs one let me know - I'm too lazy to actually try to sell it. I don't need three portables. Mods, let me know if you want/need one and I'll make you a great deal.

Lastly, if you download the Capture update be sure to "donate" to his site and efforts. $1 or $2 or $5 through Paypal would show we all appreciate him and his efforts to better the Mac community.

Thanks everyone!

Cody Dawg,

I'm not sure how practical this solution is. I found a makeshift way to get PDF's out of Windows documents.

1. On the PC, setup a printer that prints to a file. Make sure the printer description you select is one of the Apple Laserwriters listed. (if you need more detailed instructions, pm me)

2. Open your document on the PC and print to this virtual printer.

3. The printer file (in some cases) will appear in your Documents folder on windows.

4. Move this file to your mac and change the extension to .ps .

5. Open the file in Preview and save.

Viola! PDF.

Thank you very much, deomacius. You helped with something before that I was wondering about. You sure do know your stuff. I think it's so complicated. I'm supposed to use this IBM ThinkPad that they sent me at some meetings (and the "big boss" that bought it is there) and I'm so accustomed to making everything a PDF on a Mac that I honestly think I'd be lost without that feature. That much said, I feel like I'll be snubbing everyone by showing up with a PowerBook on Friday and not the "new" IBM ThinkPad that they sent me.

I'm trying to be "PC" but I'm really despising the inconvenience of it.

Thanks for your help, though.

P.S., I love Oregon. I've gone down to Powells for a couple of book readings and signings...love that place.

Have a good one!

Cody Dawg,

No problem. I just solved this problem a few weeks ago. I'm kind of surprised there aren't better descriptions of how to do this out there. And don't bother being PC about PC's. I time my PC jabs so that they sound like humor. ;-) Maybe it'll work for you. At any rate... you'll have to come visit Oregon again. It's probably changed a bit since the last time you saw it. Things are changing rapidly here.

Shay.

Oh, I'm sure they are changing fast. I have friends out in a little town along the Gorge out there and they windsurf...trying to remember the name of their little town. Great place. Went windsurfing there a few times and it was a blast. Oregon is a beautiful place. A lot of hiking and all kinds of things to do and the people there are cool.

If you ever want to come to Florida and visit some great places here drop me a PM. My house is open to good folks who want a vacation in Florida.

Hey... I live right at the mouth of the gorge before you get to Portland! I'm guessing you're talking about Hood River though. That's where most of the windsurfing takes place.

I'll keep you in mind if I need to escape the rain!

Ha ha. Yep, it's raining right now, alright!

Yes, Hood River, that's right. Love that place. Do you windsurf?

Wrong forum.
-"I don't believe in God. "
"That doesn't matter. He believes in you."

-"I'm not agnostic. Just nonpartisan. Theological Switzerland, that's me."
