What are the various ramifications of this change? Where will leave all the existing Mac users, and the compatibility of their hardware with new software in the future? Would a Max OS X ported to Intel be as stable as perform as well? Discuss!

IF they do it, it will just work--because it's from Apple. Your software will just run. And it will be every bit as stable. System stability has more to do with the OS and apps than with the hardware it runs on.

I personally don't believe this rumor. After all, Microsoft just switched from Intel to a PowerPC variant for the XBox. You'd think they might know a thing or two about the processor roadmap.

This one is confusing as all heck.

Intel rules the mobile, and AMD rules 64. But IBM has just ditched its computer line, has the console department under wraps, the Power5 is everyone's hardcore wet dream and the Cell has potential out the wazoo.

Short term Intel sounds nice, but with all the hassle needed to switch it sorta looks like IBM might be a better match again by the time the OS is sorted out.

Plus, isn't the PPC architecture part of the reason the OS is so secure? I'm no chip expert, I just swear I read that somewhere.

O' course, if Apple is gonna license OS X then this makes perfect sense. Hello market share, goodbye...well, we'll see.

I am pretty sure its 99.99% the os's fault.
