What would be the likely window for Mac Mini rev. 2 to come out? The current version 1's were announced Jan 11 2005, and were available 11 days later. It is only 5 months since that time. My guess would be that rev 2's wouldn't be coming out for another 3 months at least. Any opinions?
A friend wants to buy a Mac Mini, but I think a) it would be prudent to wait; and b) it would be prudent NOT to buy version one of any machine.

Tell your friend to wait. I have secret insider information that the Mac Mini will carry a G5 by early 2007.

I wouldn't stress too much over a machine that costs $500.

Worst case scenario: Your friend would buy a Rev 1 Mini only to see the Rev 2s drop a week later. He/she would then pack up the Mini and put it on eBay where it would go for $450, since news of new revisions seems to take about a month to reach the eBay bidders.

A lot would depend on how soon your friend needs a computer. If they can wait, then it might be a good idea.

Why wait? Djeez. I've never regretted a mac-purchase (or any purchase) even if a newer model came out weeks after I got it.

I regretted my 5500/225 when the iMac came out two months later... but that was probably more my fault for being totally uninformed back then.

thanks for all the replies - especially the link to macrumors buyer's guide. Of course - if you bought a Mac Mini right now it would be a grand machine to have and use - but I'm just trying to gauge the window of opportunity that might open up with an imminent new version of this machine, and perhaps the version 2 will be 20 percent faster and a lot more solid, being a rev. 2, And so the $500 or $600 will be far better spent. He may well not be able to afford to wait until the back to school buying season - when I think new Minis will come out. Five or six hundred bucks is not so much - for sure - but what about all the other stuff - the wireless extras, the RAM, etc. So I don't think it's such a trivial decision.

I think they'd match the Powerbook speeds of 1.5/1.67, otherwise there's really no point to even bothering.
