This is just so funny.

Thank you so much! You all know who you are.

"Oh no! We've joined them!"

"That's it! I'm ditching the mac!"

"Oh no! The mac is dead!"

"I'm not paying the apple tax if all I'm getting is a PC!"

"Now we'll get the viruses and the spyware!"

And all the other posts to this effect.

ah-hahaha!

In a week or two, the hysteria would have died down and the naysayers may start to rethink their reactions.

The reverse could also be true. Right now I'm saying I'll buy an Macintel. In a year or two I may think again.

Now, what if Longhorn is awesome and blows the Mac OS away?

Well then you can keep your Mac and just run Longhorn on it.

Seriously, this is the best thing to happen to Mac users. Soon, Macs will be able to run OS X or Windows. We'll truly have the best of both worlds, and software companies, especially game companies, can cut costs on development and simply ship their best optimized product they have without the need to develop for both OS's. Mac gamers will be able to run any PC game. Just boot your PentiumBook or PentiumMac up in Windows and play away. Aspyr will no longer need to port Windows games to OS X. Everyone wins.

Uh huh. Software companies can simply ship their best optimized products, huh? Well, if 95% of the market is Windows based, then the best optimized product will be for Windows. And Mactel users will be told to dual boot. Where is the incentive to create solid Mac software when the Windows version is just a reboot away? Regrettably, you've just made my case for me.

Despite the viruses and daily exploits, Windows is good enough for 95% of the public. And now the "Mac" will run all that software. Wonderful. If dual booting is the solution, why don't you just skip the painful transition, cut the crap and go with Dell? (I realize this is exactly what Apple does not wish to see, and the company will work to prevent to the extent that it can. I also know most of you aren't making the same argument as Scooter here. But before you run to extol the virtues of Mactel, you may want to consider the implications.)

That's the point I was trying to make, but more sarcastically. Dual booting for games will be the start of Mac users running Windows. The Apple Pro Apps will stay OS X, but now Apple will have to compete with Microsoft Windows on their own hardware. As much as Mac is unique with its OS, the same applies to the hardware, which will no longer be the case. That's why I'll keep my PowerBook, and buy an Alienware Athlon 64 instead of a G5 ('cause I need a desktop soon). If Apple's gamble pays off, and that should be apparent in '07 or '08, I'll buy another Mac then. Until then, my PowerBook G4 might be able to run Leopard, although I'm not sure if Apple has confirmed that yet.

If your powerbook runs tiger I think it's a safe bet that it will run leopard.

Sorry about that, the sarcasm didn't come through too well.

I also bet $10 that Intel would be making PPC so...

It's the software OS from Apple that really make the Mac.

Has anyone made a "Leopard changing its spots" joke reference yet?

I mean, is it so obvious to everyone that this is what might be implied by "Leopard" being the next OS name? I just don't see those posts anywhere.

I'm waiting to laugh until then.

I never thought of it. And I'm usually all over the lame obvious jokes.

I thought Leopard was to have an L in the OS to match up with Longhorn.
