"There's more applications available for Windows than there are on Apple. All a chip change could do is probably slow that down because maybe there would be a big disruption with your ISV community...There's more training, knowledge, management on how to implement networks," Ballmer said. "What changes? I don't know."

Is he kidding or what?

I hope i live to see the day in the near future where every PC dual boots into OS X!!

I expect to hear worse from the likes of Mickey Dell as well as Gates in the future. It will be an opportunity for them to spread FUD about Apple's transition and what it means.

Basically, he's saying, "The only virtue an operating system can possibly possess is to have an ungodly number of application programs available for it. Since Mac developers will now have to spend their time porting apps, they won't be able to crank out the massive amount of shitty Visual Basic worms they'd need to catch up with the Windows software library."

The really funny thing will come when any application running on OS X directly compared to Windows on exact same specs will blow the PC away and then Blamer will BITE his own tongue.

Or rather Antiperspirant.

Balmer's right on one note, ISVs will have a lot more to do. But I think a lot of them are looking at this as, well by two years we'd need a new version out anyway, this now gives us our big feature to guarantee the Mac users buy. He also seems to underestimate the resiliency of the Mac developer community. Apps break with almost every release of OS X. Though not all of them. These people are used to and have committed to keeping up with an evolving OS that keeps getting better.

Could Microsoft pull this off as easily as Apple will be able to? Probably not. Then again we never said Balmer was smart... just sweaty...
