[This was mis-posted to another thread. Apologies.]

Okay, so . . . The CPUs, GPUs, Chipsets, busses, & technologies underpinning Mac and Windows will now be the same ?

If so, will Apple now be relying *solely* on presentation (the Macintosh interface, user experience and packaging) to differeniate itself?

Can Apple supply an OS that is so more efficient on this h/w that it will provide a *significantly* "faster" platform?

And, what methods can/will Apple use to prevent clone makers?

Making Mac OS only work with a processor Intel makes just for Apple and no one else.

I don't see Intel making a cpu just for Apple - they've already stated they want to streamline their chip line on dual-core Merom, Conroe and Woodcrest chips. I could see them working with Apple to make custom MoBo's/chipsets and an Apple branded BIOS (or some other motherboard maker, like ASUS, ABit or some such).

The CPU will be the same. It's the architecture around it that's going to be unique to Apple.

This is the first time that there have been this many threads on one topic... and further, this is the first time that people have not been bitching about the excess of same-topic threads... this truly is an historical time for MacNN

But they're bitching nonetheless.
