Because he was a naturalized US citizen with no criminal record or outstanding warrants. They had no reason to detain him, and even if they suspected him of something, they had no authority to do anything about it.

Be afraid, very afraid.

Not yet. But soon! Get your tin foil hats ready!

Blah, only 12% of the US has a valid passport. Soon the US Gov will install chips in our brains. That'll protect us from terrorists.

Uh, he had the following WITH HIM: A homemade sword, a hatchet, a knife, brass knuckles and a chain saw stained with what appeared to be blood.

Besides, look at the guy:

I'm sorry but if I was even walking down the street and the cops saw that I had a bloody SAW on my even if I had no warrants or anything they would still look into it. Nevermind let me into another country.

Maybe you were sawing some ducks or something. I mean, out in South Dakota its not uncommon to see trucks, saws, or tarps covered in blood due to massive deer hunting.

Nothing says 'cool' like a deer tied to the top of your car.

"U.S. customs agents confiscated the weapons and fingerprinted Despres. Then they let him into the United States."

Since when do Canadians decide on who can enter the US?

Duh

Why wasn't he detained for sentencing for a violent crime?

On the same day Despres crossed the border, he was due in a Canadian court to be sentenced on charges he assaulted and threatened to kill Fulton's son-in-law, Frederick Mowat, last August.
Meh, the same incompetent crap goes on down here too.

It's just the canadians make canadaland out to be a crime free utopia.

Can't remember anyone saying that but the crime rate and shooting rate is much much much lower.

Time to move this to the political lounge.
