Nothing like technology that doesn't save you money.

$1900 for the reader and $9000 for the writer. Call me in a year or two.

Nifty indeed, but I worry about the speed of such a device. Wouldn't something like this have a very slow seek time?

Not if a big cache is used in the reader just like new hard drives, I would imagine. The drive would have to load the directory structure into the cache when the disk is first inserted, but then....no problem. This is just my intuitive guess, though. Don't take my word for it.

Maybe the prices will come down, but only if people actually buy it. Ah, the chicken and the egg meet the modern capitalist market.
