As tooki will be taking a sabbatical I wanted to give him some things to let him know how I feel, for whatever it might be worth. But, I also wanted to see others' viewpoints as well as introduce an idea for consideration and so rather than burying it in HIS thread, I opened a new topic.
What are your views on posters, moderators and administrators?
(BTW, if someone says this post belongs in feedback, then YOU are an example of the posters or mod/admin that I refer to below. Think about WHY it is best posted here in the lounge. If you still have a complaint, do whatever you want to change it. I don't care. Bottom line is, THIS IS NOT A BITCH SESSION...it's more like, The MacNN World According to Eynstyn. But I'm inviting you all to give your views as well and I'm interested in what they might be. Sincerely, so.)
My views on Posters:
I believe no other poster knows better than I. I have a healthy disregard for others feelings and the more they bitch the better I like it. I respect and get a kick out of reading some posts and some posters, but I'll never reveal or admit who they are. The posters that bother me most are the ones who get through my shell and impress me with their sheer stupidity or their absolute beauty.
My views on Mods and Admins:
Like Reagan's view of gubment, I want the board regulators to stay out of my way so I can do what I want and I try to keep from doing anything that will give them reason to affect me one way or the other. I'm sure they are fine people and possess great intelligence and charm but I don't want any interaction with them. I believe the community will self regulate up to a point. Only in rare cases do I see the need for Mod/Admin intrusion. The mods/admin that most bother me are those who behave as though these boards were THEIRS. Also, bothersome are those who are not very bright, who are petulent, bear grudges and take sides and those who don't have a clear and shining idea...an intellectual conceptualization of...fairness. Those who see themselves as POSTERS shouldn't be mods/admins. If they want to post it should be possible, no, MANDATORY for them to have a different name which is completely different from their mod/admin name.
They needn't pretend to be a different person when posting but the label "MODERATOR or ADMINISTRATOR" should be absent. When a Sgt. and the Pvt. have a beef and they want to settle it out back they speak of the Sgt. taking off his stripes so they can be on equal ground. But that can never happen with the current way of doing things.
A macnn official will be afforded greater deference or unfairly hounded because of their position.
I have seen instances where the Mod is at a disadvantage when posting simply because others know he is a Mod/Admin. On the other hand when some Mods/Admins make a post I get a mental picture of a line forming to kiss their asses.
I can't help but wonder how things might be improved by having a true democracy of posters. If you post let the pecking order be determined by your POSTS not by the fact of your position of authority.
Any Mod who disagrees with this idea makes me wonder if they get off on feeling slightly superior to the rest of us and would hate posting without having it readily known they were THE BOSS.
And THAT is the point.
If you truly believe there is no difference in how you would be perceived with or without the identification as an official of macnn, why not give it a try and see if that's true.
Some mod/admins would have less stress from NOT being constantly "lobbied."
And THAT is what started this. I believe tooki is burned out from constantly being lobbied by posters.
Ok. That's my 2 cents.
Have at it.
Enjoy the break, tooki.
Now, I hope you understand how I mean this but, please don't PM me or anything.

I dont have problems with anybody in particular. Sure tooki was more annoying than the rest but his rules were correct.
I prefer the "image orgy" rule he enacted.

Since this thread is now about haikus, here's one completely unrelated to IBL, and inspired by my boss who brought me his home computer to fix.
Went and bought a Dell
What's with all these popup ads
Shoulda got a Mac

I don't know how there
can be Hungarians now
with Turkey so close.
(An historically accurate/inspired play on words, in haiku form!)

I don't think a haiku can be a run-on sentence like that. Each like is supposed to stand on its own. Let's make it say this:
Some things I don't know
Hungarians still exist
Turkey is close by
That's a hard thought to turn into a haiku -- hat's off to you Oneota!

I dunno; the poetry class I took in college (yes...I actually took an appreciation of poetry class in college) didn't mention any specific rules with regards to haiku, other than the 5-7-5 rule.
Still, yours isn't bad!

You'll not see it, either because he is so obviously quoting from The Virtue of Selfishness. I expect much more from you, Timo.
(actually, I lolled)

After I ate lunch today, i had a semi-puke-related belching incident. I think it was the Spaghetti-O's, but I'll blame it on Tooki anyway. He's Kooki that way, you know?
