Rewind 25 years. In 1980, who would you have predicted to be in the news by being on trial in 2005, Prince or Michael Jackson?

Prince's 1st album was in 1978 or 79. 1999 and Little Red Corvette, which I think were his first big hits, were released in 1982, was he even that well known in 1980? Try 20 years, 1985.

You're right, Purple Rain was in 1984, so let's say 1985.

Yeah more like 1984 or 85. The androgeny thing was in bigtime, hell Michael even seemed kinda normal.

god Prince was something else in those days...

MJ may sell millions of records, but he spends far more of his own money producing and promoting them than anyone else.

Unless he gets serious about touring again, he won't have the money to do it again.

Prince still rocks. His concert in Sydney last year kicked arse! Even if he doesn't sing Sexy MF anymore.

I like Prince better. At least he's a pretty good guitarist. MJ…not so much.
But it's not really a good question because I wasn't alive in 1985. MJ is still creepier than Prince?

Actually, in 1985, it would have seemed MUCH more likely that Prince would be on trial some day - but for indecency and lewdness, and definitely not pædophilia.

And since the current trial was about pædophilia, I voted Michael in this poll.

I think karent's point is that, 20 or 25 years ago, Prince was seen as "naughty" while MJ was considered "wholesome." Remember, it was Prince who got Tipper Gore all wound up about dirty lyrics.

I used to see Prince in the clubs in Minneapolis in 1979 and 1980. I think "For You," his first album, was in '78. "Dirty Mind" was 1980.

I wouldn't have bet he'd be on trial, but I certainly assumed he'd be in SOME kind of trouble...

Ah, but gorickey still hasn't posted. It's easy to confuse MOS with GR.

No. Prince just completed the 3rd biggest/most successful tour in history. And Musicology was a successful seller. Just because teenagers aren't buying his music and he's not all over MTV doesn't mean his career is over.

And I get the point of the original poll. Prince might have been arrested for having sex with too many women at once (if there is a law against that somewhere).

If Jacko went on tour he'd get his feelings hurt.

And I was WILD about Thriller! Hated Prince and anyone who liked him. Thought he was a Michael Jackson wannabe. Now, I guess I've gotta give it to him.
