I think the market sun sells to is just getting smaller and smaller as windows, linux *(server) and the mac get faster and faster and in the case of the mac a part of the open source world.

sun will need another dot com free spending period to command the sales it used to have....

Based on Sun's spending habbits, me thinks Sun is planning to get bought out by Microsoft. Who knows, maybe Microsoft wants to pull an Open BSD on the Open Solaris code for a future operating system.

This is a technique to get more programmers working on Sun. Nothing more. I'm sure they stripped out much of the good stuff that would be required to run a very large scale system... for that, you must (taaa daaaa) buy Sun Hardware/OS.

Nobody is buying sun because of the price.

Bzzzt! Parse Error!

Do you mean that nobody is buying Sun because they're expensive or that people aren't turned away by the high prices because of their capabilities?

Yes

My point was, they are trying to get more people using Sun. So that they will grow up and buy Sun hardware.

Sun is in a tough spot as everyone is trying to take a bite of their business base. Also, there are more and more alternatives that offer about the same quality (maybe even a good bit lower) but at a fraction of the cost.

Why buy one 99.9% redundant Sun system when you can have three 95% redundant Linux system for 1/4th the cost.
