So I pretty much just need to vent over the nights events, every june my school has a film festival, even though everything is shot on video. And for half of the years it has been running I have entered at least one project. And this year, my final year for entering a project, I got nothing again. No audience choice, no jury prize, no runner ups, no nothing. And what really ticks me off is the fact that the movies that did win had no originality and were parodies, horrible and un-funny parodies. I'm going to bed angry now, so I'll probably wake up andry also. At least I only have 2 more days left of high school.

Anyone else have similar experiences?

Keyword: High School. Pretty much every thing in High School is bullsheet, at least where I live.

If your film is that good, then take it to a real film festival.

PS, since when did they put obscenity filtering on this forum?

In my career, I've found that the times I deserved to win an award, I didn't (with one exception). And the times I didn't deserve to win, I won.

Hurry up and make another one while you're still steamed. It will be greater than the last one or it will be really educational after you look at it in a few weeks after you finish it and you've calmed down.

Your colors will never seem brighter and more vivid, your action so compelling your dialogue so lifelike and convincing. Harness the rage. Make it work for you.

That ****'s been there as long as I can ****ing remember. Strangely, though, it doesn't seem to apply to much other than sh*t, f*ck and g0atse.cx. And apparently one term each for male and female genitalia. Interesting. I can't write about how much fun it is to **** my pistol.

If awards were what you were going for, you should have known to rip off a bunch of teen films.

Of course, one can ask if you were just trying to win an award or to produce the best film you could?

Are your short films posted anywhere on the net? How about any of the winners?

Don't get angry, get even.

I'm sure we can find some pretty "creative" things to day about the winners for you.

As an aside, I'd entered a competition for a short story in the creative writing department at my university. I lost. We all read our stories aloud, and I found the winning story to be ridiculously obvious, corny with its plodding metaphor, and embarrassingly pretentious. My story was genre based, like a Roald Dahl/Ray Bradbury story. But I had subtly layered in symbols which would reveal the story to be an analogy about class based hypocrisy. Well, genre stories were precisely what everyone in the Creative Writing department were being taught to ridicule. But if Raymond Carver wrote something, they'd kiss it. For me, not winning just proved that I hadn't written for that audience of judges, not that the story wasn't any good. I also learned that the majority of students voting that I spoke with later never noticed my symbol system, which is something any English student of Hemingway, Kafka, Oates, etc, should be able to do, no sweat. In other words, they dismissed it so quickly as "superficial" that they didn't evaluate it with any of the critical tools they were being taught to use. My teacher loved it.

You're goals were set to high.

You should aim low, aim so low that you can't possibly be disappointed about losing.

good points, I realize that none of this **** matters in HS and that most of the people I associate with now will soon be nothing nut annoying memories. And I'll get a few of my shorts posted online soon. And just like AB^2=BCxAC, I wasn't making a movie for that audience, they're all tool bags with no drive on life.

I'm gonna go polish up my bat with nails.
