A young woman by the name of Susan Torres, only 26 years of age, lies in a hospital bed, unconscious, the victim of undiagnosed melanoma, a deadly skin cancer.
Susan had a successful career, a wonderful husband, a two-year old little boy, and a baby on the way.
On May 7th she collapsed while at home. Taken to the hospital it was determined that she had a very large brain tumor that had caused a catastrophic brain hemorrhage. Further tests revealed that it was caused by melanoma, the deadliest skin cancer that spreads to internal organs in as little as 4 months.
Susan is defying the odds and is managing to perservere and miraculously, her unborn baby is thriving.
Her family is asking for your prayers in the hope that Susan can be kept alive until the baby can be delivered.
Here is a link to the family's site.
Read their story, say a prayer for their family, donate a dollar or two through Paypal if you are able, and remember to check your skin and the skin of anyone that you love.
Please click here to see a site about melanoma and to learn to identify warning signs.
Personally, I advise seeing a dermatologist once or twice yearly and remember to use sunblock skin lotion. As much as I like to argue with some of you I would feel terrible if we lost a MacNN member to melanoma.

Randman: Instead of making smart remarks use the time instead to check your body for suspicious skin lesions. A friend of mine just lost her 52 year old mother to melanoma. She had a brownish black freckle develop in the iris of her eye and ignored it. Finally, her eye started bleeding and she went in to see the eye doctor. Turned out it was a melanoma and it had spread to her brain. It's a serious disease.

I never said it wasn't. I've had friends and family members who have had it. I almost never joke about cancer. But I will joke about your need for a blog.

Stop derailing the thread. It's rude. I'm merely trying to point out that someone might have melanoma - or a loved one - and this is not a thread about my need to have a blog. Start a separate thread about that. I might even post there. It might even be amusing and funny. This is just a thread about the seriousness of this disease.

Actually, Cody I think you, not Randman, derailed the thread from the get go. You didn't title the thread "Melanoma: Please be mindful of this disease" or "The Dangers of Melanoma." You gave your own thread a bizarre title ("A Mother's Love is Amazing" ??? What does that have to do with anything?) and spent most of your message explaining the tragedy and providing a link to contribute to her fund.
Then you add "Please click here to see a site about melanoma and to learn to identify warning signs." and all of a sudden "This is just a thread about the seriousness of this disease "???
After all, you ended the post with a joke and a " "

A is a pleasant thing. I did not joke about seeing a dermatologist. If I use a it is merely a way that I end a thread, not to denote a joke.
I just think it is very sad that people get this disease because they ignore changes and warning signs in their skin and then they die.
We had someone here last year that had melanoma, if I remember correctly. I think he was in Australia. I've wondered how he is and maybe he'll see the thread and post here.

Yes, because "A Mother's Love is Amazing: Susan M. Torres Story" will draw many in to discuss the dangers of melanoma.

I can not even begin to tell you how much the two of you remind me of my parents (not what you say but how you say it) - they've been married for nearly 40 years and love to bicker. A tad bit creepy + a whole lot funny.
You guys were made for each other.
In that sense - get a room already.

I want to be the cameraman. Someone hold the lights and mics. And someone say, "Action."
And finally, someone edit all this in iMovie.

That's VERY funny!
I like Randman. I actually think he makes some good points. But, I disagree with his perceptions on some things and for that I have to agree to disagree, that's all.
But getting a room with someone who argues with me all of the time? Naw! Been there, done that already. D-I-V-O-R-C-E. (From a Microsoft exec, no less. Nice guy, though; just traveled too much and we argued about that.)

I agree that we should agree to disagree on many points.
As for effgee's comment: wouldn't work cuz I'd turn off the feeding tube and have bastard children with some runaway bride/felon chick who doesn't wear sunblock.
