"CardSystems has taken steps to improve the security of its system, MasterCard said. Still, the credit card company has given the data processor an undisclosed deadline to demonstrate that its systems are now secure, it said."
I'm sure the last batch that was stolen from someone else, the rep had the same response... "Oh, we are secure now..."
BS.
Nobody is secure.
The only way to secure that inoformation is to open it up to the public and have better tracing software. Let them take the info, then track them down and kill them.

We may just have to return to the safer alternative to cash. It would also help to control debt.

What's the safer alternative? Checks? Or do you mean cash is the safer alternative? The thing is, only a small portion of our money supply is circulated in the form of cash.

Oh, come on.
When was the last time there was a shortage of CASH?
And when was the last time a store or a merchant said, "Oh. You have, er, cash. Um, I'm sorry sir, but we are unable to accept cash. Do you have a credit card?"

It was only a matter of time before they got hacked. They should have stepped up security measures after all the identity theft incidents over the past 6 months.
I am more pissed about the fact that its near impossible to get an ATM card anymore that isn't a debit card.
