Like the guy?

Despise him?

Think he's talented or just caught a lucky break in radio?

I used to like his show. I enjoyed his movie, but now he's just a guy who likes to have lesbians on his television show and have women get naked. It's a broken record. Nothing original, so why bother? He should be on Cable. It's just a tease show, and not even entertaining.

I do think he made his luck, and if his life is anything like his movie made it out to be, I like how he stuck to his guns, and made it. He is an example of the American Dream. He's just become stale.

So to sum it up.

Liked him.
Still do I suppose, though I wish he would change format and get back on the cutting edge.
He's talented, but isn't using it these days to do anything new.

Interesting. It will be interesting to hear what people think. I am going to refrain from adding my own opinion until others have posted.

Used to love the show. Heard it in a few cities and even taped episodes for long drives when visiting the folks. In Vegas, it was great because they played the show live from 3am until 6am then started it fresh.

Met Ralph one night at Scores in New York. And I still think Miss America is one of the funniest books I've ever read. very creatively designed as well.

That said, I haven't heard the show since he divorced Alison and Jackie left the show. I thought it jumped the shark then.

ps, Howard read my review of Miss America on the air after it was published and was very complimentary about it. Went on about for about 10 or 15 minutes, which was a a nice touch.

I really like Howard. Some of the show is lame and offensive at times, but then at times it's brilliant. I love his honesty when it comes to celebrities. (His recent take on Cruise and Holmes is pure comedy). I love the fact he watches Smallville and knows about comics. The news is my favorite part of the show. It's all about giving the working man a few laughs on the way to work. Nothing more than that.

I found him interesting when I was in my late teens and early 20's, but as I grow older, I feel I'm growing away from that type of "shock jock" entertainment. He still has great moments, but they are broken up with long, low quality bits about degrading females, the ultra annoying and under educated... and I just don't think it's funny.

At times, his interviews are good. He will ask the questions others won't... but as others have said... I think it's over... and once he moves to SIRIUS Satellite Radio, I think the appeal will be gone as "the line" will be removed so he can talk about the most disgusting things he can conger up... while I tune out.

P.S. I visited his message board once. OMG!!! Talk about a Tooki nightmare! Everything was blinking and flashing... more spam and links to the most nasty and disgusting depravity on the net. No wonder he was forced to shut it down.

Talented. He had a vision and a drive similar to Dr. Martin Luther King.

However, Stern's actual radio show is for juvenile or immature mind set people. Definitely crudely funny but he has managed to even alienate me, a 25 yr old perverted NYer.

So like him or hate him, i believe in his arguments about free speech and the like.

Howard makes millions from behaving in a manner which encourages a lot of his listeners to live vicariously through him, and he knows exactly what he's doing. Anyone who is a regular listener knows he's always making self-deprecating remarks and trying to come off in general as Joe Schmoe, just a regular, horny semi-teenage guy with wickedly prurient desires.

I doubt very much he's anything like that in real life. He just knows where his paycheck comes from.

On another note, if I was a parent I'd go out of my way to teach my kids that the kind of behavior displayed on his show is not cool, it's not hip to humiliate women, and constantly talking about all things anal and displaying a seeming obsession with sh*t is not going to charm anyone but the lowest among us.

It's too bad he's chosen all that stuff to teach.

"'Jelly Hat' sounds silly," I told Prince. "How about something poetic, like 'Raspberry Beret.'"

It is disingenuous to say nothing has changed. Fines have been increased a thousand fold. Networks are nervous to run certain movies, where just a year before it was not an issue (ie Saving Private Ryan).

I believe it will be a funnier show when he can speak his mind without fear of fines. Like Chris Rock is funnier with bad words too. IMHO

I don't know. That sounds like a really good job to me. Sure, the novelty might wear off after the first two... three years. But hey! You have to make a living, am I right?

Saving Private Ryan was right after the Super Bowl incident. The FCC was all over that movie, but they let it slide because of the historical accuracy. Fines IMHO have increased appropriately. Stern continuously says "BUT XYZ said the F word and didn't get fined" but the difference is, many of the examples he gives are either accidents or unintentional [unlike his show].

I guess I see a difference between Chris Rock's language and throwing bologna at naked 21 year old trying to get free breast implants.

I find him funny, but think he is going to bomb on satellite.

I don't listen or watch Howard Stern. So don't really have much of an opinion. Except that the cartoon captures what I've heard about him. He has also got into trouble with the FCC.

The issue isn't that the FCC was all over Saving Private Ryan because of the Superbowl incident, but rather the chilling effect the FCC had/has on broadcasters who are afraid of getting fined BECAUSE the FCC hasn't really said what IS and what ISN't offensive. They don't know what to do, so they pull the movie. Pretty chilling effect.

Oprah mentioning graphic sexual detail was not an accident or unintentional. And it was in context of a sexually graphic show, yet she won't get fined.

I'm sure if you can define "offensive" the FCC has a job for you.

The stern mentality is "If the movie Saving Private Ryan can say the F word, I should be able to say the F word" and he will go on to say that it's a double standard. It isn't. He constantly tries to make it a black and white issue.
