[for some reason I can't post in the original thread. I always get an error. Mods, please delete the other thread titled 'Announcement: "Kilbey" is now "Railroader".']

Here's the original post:

A few people have asked in various threads and in PMs "why the name change?"

Simple explanation: I don't want an association with the name "Kilbey" anymore.

Long answer: I used to be a big fan of a band called "the church". The lead singer's name is Steve Kilbey. When I first started using the internet in 1993 and was on various chat servers I used "Kilbey" because I was a huge fan and it was the most original nickname I could think of at the time. It stuck, and I used it for over 10 years. But now currently, I am drifting away from being a fan of "the church" and have no real connection to their music. They are very talented musicians, but I just have no connection to the music they create anymore. And I actually want to distance myself from them and shed the "Kilbey" nickname.

I grew up in a prominent train/railroading town and even our high school mascot is called a railroader. We are the Durand Railroaders. And honestly, I can't think of too many negative connotations with the nickname "Railroader"

So, you can call me "Railroader", or if you want to be personable, you can call me "Tom".

Since we're all being honest my dog's name is not "Cody." It's Jake.

No, he's not a rat. Though he only weighs 4.5 pounds. Right now he looks very small because I cut down his fur coat for the summer.

Let me tell you about Jake. He's going on an interview next week in Orlando for a Disney movie interview. He's auditioning for a part. If he gets it we'll all be thrilled. He's done commercials down here in Florida and he's making a name for himself because he's cool and collected and is very intuitive. He can "smile" on command - just lifts his lips up and grins showing his teeth when you say, "Smile, Jake!" He plays dead (he falls over with a whine), he barks when you say "speak," he "shakes" his whole body (as if he were shaking off water) if you say "shake," and if you say, "go get in bed!" he jumps up in our bed. Once there if you say, "Hide, Jakey, Mothman are coming!" he hides under a blanket. When we're leaving and cannot bring him with us and we say, "kennel!" he runs and gets into his dog kennel (which is great dane sized and has a dog bed and dog toys and other things in it - it's huge). If you say, "Gimme five, Jake!" he offers you a paw. When he gets in a handbag and I say, "Jakey, lay down and be quiet!" he lays down and doesn't move. He knows we're going into a restaurant and that he needs to hide. Of course I sneak him tidbits - and at our regular restaurants the managers all know he's in there and look the other way. He also knows how to play frisbee with the top of a margarine tub - he'll catch it in the air.

He is THE coolest dog. Everyone loves him. He sleeps curled up next to my neck every night.

One thing about Jake? He's a con artist. He can get up on the table or a counter and he'll figure out a way to get what he wants. When he hears you coming he jumps down and pretends like he wasn't even up there.

And he never barks when people come to the door. He just sits politely and offers them a paw when they come in. He's very smart.

Edited to say that Jake is a dog that someone didn't want, by the way. He was very sick and they said he couldn't be potty trained. We spent $1000 on medical care fixing him up and he learned to go potty outside in only two days - we used bacon as a reward. He's amazing.

Yeah, The Church's stuff lately has been pretty weak. Thank goodness for Marty's solo stuff.

ARG.... don't get me pulled into a discussion. I'm trying to distance myself, remember Bruce.

Just joking, but the church's current music is not why I am losing interest in the band. It's mostly the band's interests that are making me lose interest.

Long answer: I used to be a big fan of a band called "the church". The lead singer's name is Steve Kilbey. When I first started using the internet in 1993 and was on various chat servers I used "Kilbey" because I was a huge fan and it was the most original nickname I could think of at the time.

For a second, i thought you hit the 10k post mark and retired "Kilbey"

You probably could have asked nicely for an admin to change your name or something. They wouldn't necessarily do it, but it can't hurt to ask. Then again, maybe you did ask. I dunno. All your old posts would then still be associated with you.

Adding the kilbey line in your sig will fool them. Besides, maybe people thought you were a noob when green.
