Most Windows programs have some king of equivalent program on the Mac (that is to say, something which does the same thing the Windows version did). WinAmp has been ported to the Mac several times in its history, though those ports never really went anywhere. I would use iTunes or Audion instead of WinAmp, if I were you. What other programs do you need to use? Perhaps we can help.

Your Mac cannot become infected with viruses and Trojan horses through Virtual PC. VPC is Windows, of course, so the Windows side can become infected, but those infections cannot "pass through" to the Mac side. You can use Shockwave and Java inside Virtual PC, but you don't need to do that; they will work fine without it. Java works well on the Mac, and although Shockwave is a little slower than what you may be used to, it will run fine.

90% plus of the major apps are Mac and Windows... don't worry. Games can stink, but there are mac games out there.

Get a PC (Windows) box for gaming. Just go get a generic box that you only use to play games.

Now, go get a Mac to do everything else on, including browsing the internet. Do not hook your PC (WIndows Box) to the internet. You will suffer zero viruses, unless you load them, and will have a very happy computer user experience.

It is possible.

One thing I'm sure you'll like is that Mac keyboards have a period key.

"'Jelly Hat' sounds silly," I told Prince. "How about something poetic, like 'Raspberry Beret.'"

Maybe English is a second language for the guy? I mean, he does state that he is Irish. That means he speaks Irish and all the Irishmen I've met in bars talk the same way...run-on sentences and sometimes even slurred.

Well you already know a lot of games won't run on the Mac side of things. However just about everything else will be fine. Ditch WinAmp and get used to iTunes and you'll be fine.

It'll be a little slower, but it'll still be a lot faster than running Shockwave in Virtual PC.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

I mean, WTF ? What's that have to do with anything ?

Do you learn spelling by being around in forums and having a certain pc ?
Well, I learned punctuation in school, for that matter...

Either help the guy out or don't. One person pointing out his poor grammar is plenty. Did anyone ever think that maybe he isn't a native English speaker? No need to act like a bunch of tools when the guy is trying to get info on switching to Apple.

Cody, easy on those Irish stereotypes lady...

Well, if that's the case, he should maybe reconsider his nick, or put something down for his location that tell us.

Besides, we're in the Lounge, right. We are NOT supposed to be useful here, are we ?

Uh, yeah, Cody did...

So, if he's 'irishguy' and English is his not his first language, I assume it must be Irish. Bhuel, níl mo chuid Gaeilge chomh maith agus a bhí sí seal, ach dá mba mhaith leis, b'fhéidir linn an comhrá seo a bheith againn as Gaeilge, más níos fusa dó é sin ná é a bheith againn as Béarla...

(Speaking of which, when are you going to get around to getting those fadaí in your sig fixed? Little black diamonds with question marks in them don't do much for the Irish language, y'know!)

Yeah, I know. Every time I think I should get around to fixing it, I get distracted by something shiny and spend the rest of the afternoon in a daze. Hey, it happnes
