I need to get a new electric razor so I figured I'd just grab one at Wal*Mart. The Braun is $100 and the Remington is $125. These are the self-cleaning ultra-whoopdiedoo ones. Anyone have any experiences with these, good or bad? For $100 I'd like to know I'm buying the right one.

I got the Braun Activator. Paid about $140 at Costco. Shaves close, and self cleans (I think a VERY important feature).

I'd personally go for a Phillips too... Mine has been excellent.

i have never had any luck with electric razors...they never shave close enough, i can never get my neck hair and they usually hurt like hell.

I wet shave once or twice a week for a really close shave, but electric is a good compromise when it comes to time as I have to be clean shaven for work every day, but wet-shaving takes too long!

Another Philips vote, never had a problem with my two. Though I gotta say, I'm always amazed at how damn expensive eletric razors are!

Same here. They create this burn on my neck and the shave isn't very close. I love my Mach3 razor.

I use a Norelco, but it doesn't always shave that close especially on the right side of my neck. That self cleaning Braun sounds interesting.

I have problems with old-fashioned razors. The only use I have for them is to shave other body parts, but it still hurts like hell in my face. Never had an issue with one of my Brauns.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

i have a mach3 but recently started using a schick quattro just because it was on sale and was cheaper then buying new blades for my mach3....i wish i could find some cheap generic version of those blades...they really bend you over with those high prices,

They last me a long time so I don't mind. I also like the way the head pivots over the Schicks.

I've got a self-cleaning Braun. Not bad as far as electrics go, but they do give me razor burn. Thing is, a blade is worse! I break out whenever I try to give myself a close shave (especially around my chin). Even dermatologists aren't much help other than saying that my skin will get used to it.
So when I'm not wearing a beard or a goatee, I use professional electric hair clippers and go for the 5 o'clock shadow/Don Johnson look. Otherwise I looked like a pimpled freak.

i use a Braun most of the time. a mach 3 for special occasions, and to clean up around the neck where the Braun has issues.

my shaver is one of the self cleaning ones, but the only thing i noticed it did was destroy the cutter block. it basically started to disintegrate (the blades on the cutter block thing started breaking off) after a short period of time from using the cleaning base thing. this is my guess, but it was also my 3rd or 4th braun shaver, and the problem went away after i stopped using it.

now i just take the foil off, tap it in the sink, and brush off the cutter blade every once in a while. i still replace the blade and foil every 6-9 months.

I've used a Braun ever since the late 70's. They'll last a long time... however I've never used those new self-cleaning ones. I find I can get just a close a shave as I can with my Mach 3.

Because using a blade is generally more irritating than a shaver, I use the Braun for daily week-day use. Then don't shave over the w/e and use the Mach 3 on Monday morning. Why? Using a blade is a great way to exfoliate once a week.

I haven't used a Philips/Norelco/Remington for a very long time but I found that if your beard is long they tend to pull more and you don't get as close a shave. Wouldn't recommend them personally.
